[METADATA] SDG rating
SDG Goals
16 - Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
SDG Subgoals
16.5 - Substantially reduce corruption and bribery in all their forms
16.6 - Develop effective, accountable and transparent institutions at all levels
[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.
The problem I aim to solve is corruption within the Cardano (Catalyst) community. Traditional politics globally fall short in addressing this issue, except for cases like Nordic countries. Norway, for instance, implemented an effective ethics code to combat corruption and undesired behaviors. Inspired by their success, I propose a similar ethics code within the Cardano community. This code will establish clear norms and principles, promoting transparency, integrity, and accountability in our decentralized governance system. By adopting this approach, we can create a reliable and fair community that values honesty, accountability, and ethical practices at all levels. The ethics code will be fundamental in ensuring long-term trust and success while mitigating the harms associated with corruption and unethical behaviors.
[IMPACT] How does your proposed solution address the challenge and what benefits will this bring to the Cardano ecosystem?
So far, Catalyst's governance approach has been primarily focused on technology, overlooking the fact that governance systems are rooted in social and political sciences. Thus, a completely different approach is needed. Just as Ethereum failed in its technical development, we are veering off track in governance development by neglecting the involvement of social scientists, political theorists, and other professionals in the social sciences. We cannot solve human problems solely through a technical lens.
[IMPACT] How do you intend to measure the success of your project?
We will gauge the success of our project based on the volume of contributions and reports made on the platform we will create alongside the ethics code. This platform will serve as a space for community members to report any violations of the code, ensuring transparency and accountability.
[IMPACT] Please describe your plans to share the outputs and results of your project?
The project will be implemented through an online platform where we will document the ethics code and provide a means for reporting violations. With verifiable records to prevent manipulation and misinformation, we aim to overcome the issues of post-truth commonly seen in traditional politics. Our approach will leverage scientific tools to ensure transparency and accuracy.
[CAPABILITY/ FEASIBILITY] What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability?
We have a proven track record within our community, co-organizing the Cardano Summit in 2021 and 2022, and being selected by the Cardano Foundation for a third consecutive year in 2023. Additionally, we successfully hosted the first Cardano Hackathon in Latin America, co-created the Latin American Cardano community, and established the first physical pool in the region (ONE1) (https://adapool.one). These contributions exemplify our commitment to advancing and supporting our community on multiple fronts.
Furthermore, we have entered into a collaborative agreement with the esteemed National Technological University, and our team includes renowned academics and representatives from the fields of political and social sciences. Together, we will develop the ethics code from a human-centered perspective, leveraging their expertise and insights.
[CAPABILITY/ FEASIBILITY] What are the main goals for the project and how will you validate if your approach is feasible?
The main goals for the project are to address unethical behavior within the Cardano (Catalyst) community, establish an ethics code inspired by successful models like Norway, and promote transparency, integrity, and accountability. To validate the feasibility of our approach, we will measure success through the volume of contributions and reports made on the platform. We will also assess community engagement and the adoption of ethical standards. Collaborating with social scientists and leveraging scientific tools will further enhance the validity of our approach.
