This proposal is part of a family of proposals that collectively aim to create Buriza, a comprehensive Cardano wallet software suite spanning mobile, browser, and desktop applications. Buriza, named after the Japanese word for Blizzard, symbolizing a powerful bow or cannon, is designed to be the best open-source, fully decentralized, and cross-platform Cardano wallet. It will empower users with maximum control over their entire wallet infrastructure. By combining open-source transparency, backend flexibility, and utilizing a standardized protocol for interacting with UTxO-based blockchains through the UTxO RPC standard, Buriza will enable users to self-host, choose their backend servers, self-verify and install the software, and fully customize the wallet’s security, privacy, and functionality to meet their specific needs. 

To power Buriza, this proposal will focus on Buriza.Mobile, which offers a secure, portable solution for managing the Cardano wallets directly from a mobile device. Unlike existing mobile wallets that rely on third-party browsers for dApp interaction, Buriza.Mobile will include its own integrated browser. Additionally, it will be the first open-source mobile wallet on Cardano that will allow users to point to their own preferred server, verify the code of the app itself, and manage their assets securely. This will ensure that users' funds are protected, and transactions are safe, while offering streamlined user experience. By integrating with Buriza.Core along with features such as self-hosting, Buriza.Mobile will ensure users maintain full control over their wallet infrastructure, enhancing security and decentralization. Users will no longer need to switch between apps or connect external browser wallets, as all dApp interactions are handled securely within Buriza.Mobile. With the help of Buriza.Core, Buriza.Mobile will efficiently manage user balances, assets, and other blockchain-related data, delivering a smooth and secure experience tailored for mobile users. 

Problem Statement

There are various Cardano wallets available today, and while they are functional and serve their purpose, they still come with the following significant limitations:  

• Centralized Dependency: Many wallets depend on third-party services or centralized backend servers to access blockchain state, introducing potential security risks and undermining long-term reliability, particularly if these servers go offline or are shut down. 

 

• Closed-Source: The rise of closed-source wallets means users can no longer inspect the code, raising concerns about security vulnerabilities and lack of accountability. 

 

• Limited User Control: Many wallets limit users' control over wallet infrastructure, making it challenging to interact with UTxO-based blockchains in a decentralized manner. This not only undermines user autonomy and privacy but also restricts the user’s ability to customize the wallet according to their individual preferences. 

 

• Poor User Experience: Existing wallets often face issues such as unclear transaction dialogs, confusing account balance displays, and challenges in rendering digital assets like NFTs or media (e.g., audio and books). Additionally, transaction history is often poorly organized, making it difficult for both crypto-native and average users to understand their activities. Furthermore, many wallets are limited to specific platforms—available on mobile but not desktop—resulting in inconsistent user experiences across devices. 

 

• Insufficient Decentralization: Although some wallets allow users to edit the submission node, this is not enough to ensure true decentralization, as many still rely on third-party infrastructure for essential functions like balance and transaction history retrieval. 

 

• Failure to Comply with Standards: Several wallets fail to comply with Cardano Improvement Proposal (CIP) standards, limiting interoperability, security, and compatibility within the ecosystem. 

To highlight these differences, a comparison table between existing Cardano wallets and Buriza will be provided to illustrate how Buriza will overcome these limitations.

• Mobile-Specific Application and Enhanced Security: Buriza.Mobile will be built as a standalone mobile application, ensuring that wallet interactions are securely managed within the app itself. By operating independently of third-party apps and centralized servers, Buriza.Mobile will provide a self-contained environment, reducing reliance on external apps and potential vulnerabilities. This is crucial for mobile users who prioritize on-the-go access without compromising security. 

 

• Integrated Browser for Seamless dApp Interaction: Buriza.Mobile will include an integrated browser directly within the app, allowing users to interact with Cardano dApps seamlessly on their mobile devices. This feature will enable users to perform all necessary operations, including participating in Cardano DeFi (decentralized finance) activities such as staking, lending, and token swaps, all within the app. Users will enjoy a smooth and secure experience without the need to switch between apps or rely on third-party or centralized servers. 

 

• Optimized for Portability and Accessibility: Buriza.Mobile will be designed with the mobile user in mind, offering a lightweight and responsive experience that makes managing Cardano assets easy and accessible from anywhere. The app will function autonomously, without relying on centralized infrastructures, ensuring that users maintain control over their data. With intuitive touch-based navigation and quick access to key wallet features, it will provide a streamlined experience optimized for smaller screens, making it different from the more robust, multi-window experience on desktop. 

 

• Tailored User Experience for Mobile: Buriza.Mobile will be specifically designed for a mobile-first experience where it addresses issues common in mobile wallets, such as clunky navigation and unclear transaction dialogs, by offering clear account displays, intuitive asset management, and optimized NFT rendering for mobile screens. All of these while delivering an experience that requires no dependence on external systems or services. 

 

• Cross-Platform Integration: While Buriza.Mobile will be built for on-the-go users, it will seamlessly integrates with other Buriza platform components like Buriza.Core, Buriza.Desktop, and Buriza.Browser. This will ensure that users can manage their wallets across devices, with a consistent experience regardless of the platform. Also, users will not need to rely on third-party servers, platforms, or services with this. 

 

• Self-Verification, Self-Host, & Backend Flexibility: Buriza.Mobile places a strong emphasis on user autonomy by offering the option for self-installation and self-verification. Users have full control to install the app themselves, ensuring complete decentralization and eliminating reliance on centralized servers. This flexibility empowers users to take charge of their data privacy and security. With over fifteen (15) years of full-stack development experience across diverse platforms such as cloud, gaming, mobile, and server environments, I can confidently say that my comprehensive and diverse background uniquely qualifies me to lead this initiative. As the founder of SAIB Inc., a company specializing in blockchain technologies, I have successfully spearheaded several innovative projects on the Cardano platform. My collaboration with key entities such as TxPipe, dcSpark, Crashr, Coinecta, Levvy, and the Cardano Foundation highlights my strong understanding and deep commitment to the Cardano ecosystem.   

In addition to my leadership role, I bring hands-on experience as the operator of the ADAPH stake pool, and I have contributed to the development of open-source Cardano tools—further advancing the platform's functionality and accessibility. Milestone 1: UI/UX Design (Month 1-2) 

Objective: Design the user interface and user experience for Buriza.Mobile, ensuring a seamless, intuitive workflow tailored for mobile devices. The design will focus on enabling easy access to core functionalities such as self-installation, self-verification of code, transaction management, dApp integration, and viewing balances and assets. The design will be optimized for mobile, ensuring smooth navigation and efficient use of screen space. 

 

Deliverables: 

• Wireframes and mockups for all key mobile screens (e.g., sending, receiving assets, viewing balance and assets, transaction history, full node setup, and dApp access, etc.). 
• Report covering design decisions, usability considerations, and mobile-specific accessibility features. 

Milestone 2: Implement the Design (Month 3-4) 

Objective: Develop the Buriza.Mobile interface and functionality as per the UI/UX design. This includes building the mobile front-end for wallet interactions, such as transaction management, asset displays, and integration with decentralized applications (dApps). Self-installation and self-verification features will also be implemented, allowing users to install the app independently and verify the code to ensure trust and transparency. 

 

Deliverables: 

• Source code for mobile front-end UI components and interaction flows. 
• Integrated design for key features: sending, receiving assets, viewing balance and assets, transaction history, full node setup, and dApp access, etc. 
• Report outlining implementation progress and challenges encountered, particularly mobile-specific adjustments. 

Milestone 3: Integrate Buriza.Core (Month 4-5) 

Objective: Integrate Buriza.Core functionalities into Buriza.Mobile, ensuring seamless interaction between the mobile UI and Buriza.Core’s core features. This includes transaction building, signing, blockchain state queries (balances, assets), and security protocols. The focus will be on efficient data flow and optimal performance on mobile devices, relying on lightweight or third-party nodes for blockchain interaction.

• Integration of Buriza.Core features.
• Report detailing integration challenges and solutions specific to mobile environments. 

Milestone 4: Testing & Performance Optimization (Month 5-6) 

Objective: Conduct thorough testing of Buriza.Mobile across different devices and mobile environments. This includes functional testing to ensure that Buriza.Core integrations work correctly, performance testing under different mobile conditions, and stress tests to simulate various usage scenarios. Optimization will focus on battery efficiency, performance, and minimizing resource usage for mobile devices.

Gathering feedback from early users will help inform future improvements.
