Atala PRISM Pioneer Program "Self-governance of Emergent Communities"
Use Case: LATAM Community DID
Why is this important?
- Latin America is one of the unequal regions of the world.
- Latin America is the worst- performing region globally, second only to Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Adopting technologies in Latin America often comes from foreign countries rather than from within. This outside influence prevents exposure within the LATAM communities to self-governance, self-regulation, and a proper understanding of the communities needs.
Traditional commons literature often consider "subtractive" resources such as forests and fisheries where one person's use reduces the benefits available for another. Contrary to this, knowledge has been traditionally considered "nonsubtractive" since the more people who share useful knowledge, the greater the common good. (Hess & Ostrom, 2017) This proposal aims at increasing awareness of SSI/DID technologies through didactical and applied sharing of knowledge.
Project Introduction:
A basic course that promotes the adoption and benefits of linking communities by introducing the concepts of SSI and Patterns of Commoning to Latin American countries, a Community VC is issued upon completion, and stored at our partner "Open Source Credential Wallet". https://cardano.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Open-Source-Credential-Wallet/382078-48088
Use the course structure to host six successful workshops to increase awareness of SSI/DID/Atala PRISM in the subsequent six months. Promote the adoption and DID usage on the local community hubs for memberships & educational workshop certificates in Cardano mainnet.
Working in coordination with our partner "DID for Cardano Indonesia Community" during the first semester of 2022, we will create the building blocks for the introduction of educational material through workshops, issuance of Community VCs, and the partnership with holder wallet. https://cardano.ideascale.com/a/dtd/DID-for-Cardano-Indonesia-Community/380911-48088
By joining forces under the same umbrella, we could integrate a comprehensive English Based WebApp MVP that could be named: "Cardano DID Community" that allows for new countries/regions/communities to join and follow our efforts with a standardized approach.
For the second semester of 2022, we would focus on delivering workshops to promote adoption and to invite more countries/regions/communities to use our approach for their own needs. By applying the knowledge acquired at the Atala PRISM Pioneer Program, we would give the community its first basic use case and allow for others to join and grow in a similar way.
Project Details:
The basic implementation of SSI/DID could be done via Atala Prism SDK on a web application. The users would interact with the following English MVP:
- Introduction to SSI/DID, benefits of its adoption and potential use cases in educational format
- Workshops and Upcoming Events (Roadmap)
- Potential use cases and partnerships within the community
- Dedicated Page for Active Communities: LATAM, Indonesia and invitation for newcomers
The Latin America campaign would be carried out with two small impact teams in Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro. Starting with friends and family in the largest economic hubs of Latin America.
SSI/DID Trust Diamond:
- Issuer: LATAM Community DID
- Holder: Members of LATAM Community DID @"Open Source Credential Wallet" https://cardano.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Open-Source-Credential-Wallet/382078-48088
- Verifier: Community & Course Staff
- Governance Authority: TBD (Could be Cardano DID Community)
What does success look like?
- If funded, we would work with our partners to create an accessible and standardized approach for any community to use the SSI/DID technologies.
- Increasing awareness of the benefits and capabilities both in terms of identity and community with a large-scale distribution strategy would allow for the inclusion of marginalized communities and the ownership of identity.
