Sustainable Coffee to earn QoFFEE_Way solves problems in 2 phases

Let me reiterate the problem.

The reason we have chosen the climate change issue as our project theme is the "Coffee 2050 Problem".

In a nutshell, the Coffee 2050 issue is "Coffee production will be halved by 2050 due to climate change caused by greenhouse gases.

This issue was first raised in 2012.

It is said that this issue was first raised in 2012 by Dr. Aaron Davis, a senior researcher at the Royal Kew Gardens in the UK, who published a study entitled "The Impact of Climate Change on Coffee Production in 2050.

This combination was tested, resulting in the 2050 issue. The Global Coffee Quality Reserch Initiative (GCQRI), now World Coffee Reserch, was formed by the members who supported this research, and the development of new seeds that can withstand climate change was initiated.

The Coffee 2050 issue has been raised for about 10 years. The coffee industry as a whole is still working on approaches to solve the problem in the producing countries.

However, there is still a problem.

The survey is very complicated and requires calculation of both CO2 absorption and emission. Typical items are as follows

Such a survey cannot be done by the grower alone; it must be done accurately by a surveyor. On the other hand, coffee is produced in different ways all over the world, and it is impossible to survey every plantation.

So what should we do?

Phase 1 (web application)

1. Start measuring greenhouse gas emissions in coffee distribution from the producing countries to final consumption, starting with Africa.(model case)
2. We will develop a visualization service that allows anyone to compare the measured greenhouse gas emissions in an easy-to-understand manner.

Phase2(Cardano on chain)

1. develop and implement an algorithm to indirectly prove carbon credits by describing (journaling) the visualized coffee consumption with a story in one's own account.
2. build a model in which tokens are given as an incentive for providing descriptive data, which is personal information, and these tokens can be given directly to African producers, mainly in Ethiopia, who are connected through AtalaPRISM via P2P
3. contribute to research on the mind and brain, including neuro science, by compiling a database of consumption descriptions and utilizing it for academic research.

Phase 1, we will achieve carbon neutrality by 2025 through two projects.

Atala PRISM is the key solution for QoFFEE_Way.

Ethiopia, where CardanoAfrica is working on the project, is one of the most important coffee producing regions in the world with the most diverse coffee varieties, and we were there in 2018 2020. The promotion of AtalaPRISM in the education sector that Cardano Africa is promoting is also closely related to the subsequent African economy. Coffee production is also an important foreign currency earning industry, so we will start QoFFEE_Way in Osaka, the birthplace of Cardano, with a new ecosystem where producers and consumers can exchange tokens through P2P (Coffee to earn) with a view to collaborating with Cardano Africa.

This Catalyst9 is the first phase of the project. First, we will submit Phase 1, a field survey on greenhouse gas measurement and visualization, and the development of visualization services.

Coffee2050年問題を一言で言えば「温室効果ガスによる気候変動で2050年にはコーヒー生産が半減する」という問題です。

この問題提起のきっかけは、2012年に英国王立Kew GardensのシニアリサーチャーであるAaron Davis 博士による調査発表だと言われています。

この論文ではエチオピアにおけるアラビカ種の気候変動をモデリングしており、

•  2000年を閾値として2020,2050,2080年の３つの時間軸のシュミレーション
•  ３つの温室効果ガス排出量によるシュミレーション

この組み合わせを検証しており、結果として2050年問題が提起されました。またこの調査をサポートしたメンバーが中心となり現在のWorld Coffee Reserchが発足され、気候変動に耐えうる新たな種子の開発が始まりました。

このようにCoffee2050年問題は約10年前から提起されている問題です。現在も生産国における問題解決のアプローチはコーヒー産業全体で進んでいます。

しかしまだ問題が残っています。

それは「生産国において、どの程度のCO2が排出されているかが調査されていない」という問題です。

調査はとても複雑で、CO2の吸収と排出のどちらも計算する必要があります。代表的な項目は以下の通りです。

このような調査は生産者だけでは不可能であり、調査員が正確に調査する必要があります。一方で、世界中でコーヒーは異なる方法で生産されていますが、全ての農園を調査することは不可能です。

では我々はどうするべきなのでしょうか？

そこで問題解決を２つのフェーズで解決します。

Phase1(webアプリ)

1. 生産国から最終消費までのコーヒー流通における温室効果ガスの測定をアフリカから開始します。
2. 測定した温室効果ガス量を誰でもわかりやすく比較できるような可視化モデルを開発します。

Phase2(Cardanoオンチーン)

1. 可視化されたストーリー性のあるコーヒー消費を自身のアカウント内に記述(ジャーナリング)することで、間接的にカーボンクレジット証明となるアルゴリズムを開発実装します。
2. 個人情報である記述データを提供するインセンティブとしてトークンが付与され、そのトークンはAtalaPRISMでつながるエチオピアを中心とするアフリカ生産者に直接P2Pで付与できるモデルを構築します。これは一言で言えばCoffee to earn で、消費記述を通して得たトークンはメタバース空間でも利用できます。
3. 消費記述をデータベース化し学術研究に活用することで脳科学など心と脳の研究に貢献します。すでに複数の研究者と準備しており、筆者自身も研究に従事します。

Phase1では２つのプロジェクトによって、2025年にカーボンニュートラルを実現します。

1.生産国から最終消費までコーヒー流通における温室効果ガスの測定し、このプロジェクトをきっかけに業界での世界基準に貢献します。このプロジェクトは国際非営利環境団体のサスティナブルコーヒーチャレンジに採択されました。

この３つの可視化を一体的に連動することで、消費者にわかりやすい環境提案を行い、気候変動による生産減少問題を解決します。

QoFFEE_WayのキーソリューションとなるのがAtala PRISMです。

カルダノアフリカがプロジェクトを進めているエチオピアは、最も多様性あふれるコーヒー品種がある世界的に最重要なコーヒー生産地であり、我々も2018年2020年に訪問していました。カルダノアフリカが進める教育分野におけるAtalaPRISMの普及は、その後のアフリカ経済とも密接に関わるものです。またコーヒー生産は重要な外貨獲得産業です、そこで我々はQoFFEE_Wayをカルダノアフリカとの連携を視野に入れ、生産者と消費者がP2Pでトークン交換できる(Coffee to earn )新たなエコシステムをカルダノ発祥の地である大阪からスタートします。

今回のCatalyst9はその第一弾です。まずはPhase1の温室効果ガス測定およびCo2削減量の可視化に関する現地調査と、可視化サービス開発について提出します。

[IMPACT] Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

Phase 1, the survey will be conducted in accordance with international protocols for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The results of the survey in Rwanda will be used in conjunction with World Coffee Reserch, an international organization, to establish a baseline for Africa as a whole. The total emissions from the production process to the final consumer's cup will be measured Co2 reduction and visualized.

Some of the visualizations have already been tested in a beta version within the community, including a store in Osaka. As soon as the research is completed, we will expand the number of QoFFEE_Way stores to be linked to the system.

Field surveys will be conducted in cooperation with international coffee organizations to establish regional standards, starting with Rwanda, the hub of the international coffee research period in Africa. This project has also been selected by Conservation International, an international non-profit environmental organization, to collaborate on survey data.

The database in Rwanda will be expanded to other coffee-producing regions in East Africa, including Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. In Phase 1, we will first develop a visualization platform.

In this way, we will contribute to the Cardano network as well as stimulate African industry by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Phase2 Cardano's Contribution to Africa

• It is estimated that more than 10 million people are involved in coffee production in Africa. It is assumed that all of these producers, or 10 million people, will be committed to the Cardano network through the dissemination of AtalaPrism.

• Atala Trace will record the phase 1 survey records. This will connect the Cardano African Comminity with Cardano coffee lovers around the world on-chain.

• We plan to recruit two Cardano developers from Africa (starting with Rwanda) in 2023 in collaboration with a Japanese technical college. This will contribute to the Cardano network.

アフリカ・ルワンダでの調査結果をアフリカ全体での基準値にすべく国際機関であるWorld Coffee Reserchと連動します。また製造工程や最終消費者のカップに至るまでの、総排出量を測定し、Co2削減量を可視化します。

また一部の可視化については、すでに大阪の店舗を含むコミニティ内でβ版でテストを開始しています。今後は調査完了次第、QoFFEE_Wayの連携店舗を拡大していきます。

今回のCatalyst9は2つのフェーズの第一弾です。まずはPhase1の温室効果ガス測定およびCo2削減量の可視化に関する現地調査と、可視化サービス開発について提出します。

現地調査はコーヒー国際機関とも連携した地域ごとの標準規格となるべく、まずはアフリカにおける・コーヒー国際研究期間のハブであるルワンダから現地調査を開始し、一部はすでにスタートしています。またこのプロジェクトでは国際非営利環境団体であるConservation Internationalのプロジェクトに採択いただき、調査データの連携を行います。

またルワンダでのデータベースは、今後エチオピアやケニア、タンザニアなど東アフリカ諸国におけるコーヒー生産地にも展開していきます。Phase2でAtala PRISMを活用することで、カーボンクレジット市場から生まれる資金をアフリカを中心とする生産者に循環できることを想定し、まずはPhase1では可視化プラットフォームを開発します。

こうすることで、温室効果ガスを削減することでアフリカの産業を活性化すると共に、カルダノネットワークに貢献します。

Phase2 カルダノアフリカへの貢献

• アフリカではコーヒー生産に1000万人以上の人々が従事していると言われています。この生産者の全て、つまり1000万人がAtalaPrismの普及によってカルダノネットワークにコミットすることを想定しています。

• AtalaTraceによって、phase1の調査記録を記録していきます。これによりカルダノアフリカコミニティと世界のカルダノコーヒーラヴァーがオンチェーンで繋がります。

• 2023年に日本の専門学校と連携してアフリカ(ルワンダからスタート)からカルダノ開発者を2名採用することを計画しています。これによりカルダノネットワークに貢献します。

We will report on the blog on our web page and at East Asia Meetups and other events. We also plan to present papers at academic conferences.

Measurement

We will measure our field research and development according to the roadmap of the Sustainable Coffee Challenge, a coffee project of Conservation International, a non-profit environmental organization.

KPI

Object:This research calculates Rwandan coffee from environmental and social aspects, and to improve its value as a stepping stone to sustainable coffee production and as Fairtrade coffee.

Value:The project is expected to serve as a benchmark for the African region with respect to the environmental aspects of coffee, and to improve the value of Fairtrade coffee from a social standpoint.

Method:Using the data you provided, we will evaluate the product in terms of climate change, water consumption, and land use.

The visualization application development will be developed from June to December, and we are considering user testing by serving coffee at the Cardano Japan booth at the Expo at the end of October. By actually providing this service to visitors, we will be able to build a bridge between Cardano Africa and everyone in Japan.

• 非営利環境団体Conservation Internationalのコーヒープロジェクトであるサスティナブルコーヒーチャレンジのロードマップに従って現地調査と開発を測定していきます。

目的：ルワンダ産コーヒーを環境・社会的側面から算出し、持続可能なコーヒー生産への足がかりとし、フェアトレードコーヒーとしての価値を向上させる。

価値観：コーヒーの環境面ではアフリカ地域のベンチマークとなり、社会面ではフェアトレードコーヒーの価値向上が期待される。

方法:提供いただいたデータをもとに、気候変動、水消費、土地利用などの観点から製品を評価します。

• 可視化アプリ開発は6月から12月にかけて開発し、10月末に開催されるExpoのカルダノジャパンブースでコーヒーを提供させていただき、ユーザーテストを考えています。実際に来場者に提供することでカルダノアフリカと日本のみなさんの架け橋になります。

[AUDITABILITY] What does success for this project look like?

1. This project is the first step in a new value proposition that comes from a cup of coffee. Coffee is a major industry in many African countries where Cardano focuses its efforts. Phase 1 of the project will start by creating an opportunity to think about environmental issues through coffee consumption.
2. The goal is to reach 30 million users per year by 2025 through coffee, both producers and consumers. This is equivalent to about 20% of the number of consumers in the United States, the world's largest coffee consuming country. The increase in the number of users will accelerate carbon neutrality and contribute to improving the quality of life of the entire value chain. This will contribute to the development of Africa and, by extension, Cardano.

Through this project, we will neutralize greenhouse gases in the coffee supply chain by 2025.
