For platform security reasons, we will open source as many parts as possible once the platform has reached a stable development checkpoint. The Drunken Dragon Universe is a decentralized fantasy franchise for indie creators, fantasy fans, and visionaries, built with the tools and technologies required to revolutionize the entertainment industry and finally bring freedom to creativity, collaboration and storytelling.

1 Open Epic Fantasy Franchise, Shaped by the Community, for the Future of Creative Freedom

We champion indie creators. All Drunken Dragon Universe general IP is under creative commons. All characters, storylines, and places can be used without asking for permission. And individual products can still be protected.

2 Decentralized Governance

We are establishing a system that allows fans and creators to vote on crucial aspects, such as deciding which products become official, allocating shared resources, and determining the future direction of the franchise. No single party should have control over it, that is why we chose Cardano blockchain technology to develop governance that serves us all.

3 A Marketplace for all Official Products

We aim to construct a decentralized marketplace powered by Cardano, where official products approved by the community, such as comics, art, games, and more, can be sold in a single location for fans to discover. Then, the marketplace commissions finance new projects voted by the community, creating new opportunities in an ever-growing epic fantasy universe.

About This Proposal's Solution

To create an ecosystem of indie creators, we must start with a specific type of media and product. We have chosen to start with the indie game dev community since it's part of our background and is the community we can impact the most.

Drunken Dragon: Dragon Forge is a web platform and marketplace where indie game devs can learn game development, access Drunken Dragon Universe's franchise open game assets for free (or paid from other creators), consult the lore, publish and sell indie games, gain reputation and get funding similarly to how project Catalyst works. 

It is also a place for fantasy fans to access indie games created under the common umbrella of the Drunken Dragon Universe franchise, start supporting their creators and participate in the decentralized governance of the platform and the franchise.

The platform will work similarly to the Steam platform, except it has some restrictions and new tools. We restrict all products to be only under the Drunken Dragon Universe franchise, but in exchange, we give access to many assets and a pre-made universe. Also, in our platform, the 30% fee Steam would charge goes back to the community for an ever-organically growing franchise instead. 20% of the fee goes into a decentralized treasury to fund future projects, similar to Project Catalyst. The other 10% goes to development expenses.

To attract a critical mass of Cardano users, we must develop products which bring intrinsic value to people and realize the benefits of blockchain technology.

In our case, we are developing a decentralized fantasy franchise. A type of "decentralized Disney" where any creator can freely use the IP, but the fans approve official products. With a decentralized marketplace to publish and purchase official products. An organically growing decentralized entertainment industry that anyone can access without permission and is regulated by smart contracts and algorithmic policy-making, where fans can safely invest their emotions knowing that there will always be new indie creators ready to expand the universe.

We have a track record of delivery through the last 2 years by being an active Cardano project that continues to deliver. We have already developed the following:

• A high-quality first volume of a comic series based on Drunken Dragon lore. (See Amazon)
• Built a participating fanbase (See Discord)

We have learnt much as a startup in the last 2 years, having solidified our development team, cofounders, and company processes and values. We deploy game versions almost daily.

Even without catalyst support, we will find the required funding to continue developing, as we are determined to transform the entertainment industry in ways that only blockchain technology can. And to contribute to constructing a more fair, accessible, decentralized world for all.

The main goal of version 1 of the marketplace is to have a working dapp that allows indie creators to learn about the lore, publish games and get paid in its most basic form.

[RESOURCES & VALUE FOR MONEY] How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

The team is a full-time development team (except for the freelance UI/UX designer).

The team is currently paid well below the hourly rate from the consulting work they used to do. The Catalyst funding would complement the salary funded by the Drunken Dragon NFT sales and DND pool.

The current NFT sales and DND pool are financing the three months before any approval of the Catalyst proposals. They will continue to pay for servers, equipment, services and marketing expenses in the future. The requested funds from Catalyst are purely for personnel payment.

[IMPORTANT NOTE] The Applicant agreed to Fund10 rules and also that data in the Submission Form and other data provided by the project team during the course of the project will be publicly available.
