The awarded documentary "Chasing The Wada Dream" about blockchain education in Africa is finished, yet lacks wider distribution.
This is the total amount allocated to Adafilms - Wada documentary distribution.
We plan to submit the movie to the festivals across the globe. We plan to travel with the movie across Africa to show the opportunities Cardano is bringing to the continent.

This proposal is trying to reach beyond the gates of Cardano Community. To inform outsiders and newcomers about the benefits of the projects built around Cardano.
The documentary itself shows the mechanism of Project Catalyst and follows the early steps of wada which works as an inspirational gateway for newcomers.
Understanding real-life stories of people within Cardano ecosystem is crucial for further adoption in my view.
Proposer
Petr SmÄlĂk - documentary filmmaker
I'm producer and director of this movie.
I've been working as a professional filmmaker for 17 years. My work has been shown in television and cinema. Along the way my projects received several awards.
I have successfully delivered two proposals in F8 Film and media challenge:
1) Blockchain Class:

2) Chasing The Wada Dream documentary

To be clear: The production of "Chasing The Wada Dream" itself was funded by Project Catalyst in F8.
We've stepped into the distribution phase in March 2023. It's an ongoing process of 18+ months.
This project received Best Film Award at Nucast Film Festival and was selected to be part of a huge Conference / Festival in Rwanda July 2023. This event has 6000 attendees and over 100 000 viewers participating online.
I filmed at Cardano Summit 2022:

Let's break this down to two categories. We want to:
1) submit the movie to the film festivals across the globe
2) organize in-person screenings in Africa
1)
We are already submitting the movie to the film festivals.
Throughout March 2023 - December 2024 we plan to submit this movie to carefully picked 30 festivals.
The goal is to be selected by the festivals. The success is to be at least to 5 of them.
2)
We'll be arranging in person screenings in Africa.
These screenings are organised by wada representatives in local cinemas / cultural halls / schools etc with the opportunity of the discussion after the screening.
This is planned for March 2024 - June 2024.
4 screenings. One per month.
We already started. The producer (me) is paying all the costs so far. The goal of this proposal is to re-imburse the efforts and then continue to deliver the most possible positive outcome.
The project will have 2 milestones + the final milestone.
Milestone 1: late March 2024
Milestone 2: late May 2024
No further milestones, only the final one. Final report.
No further milestones, only the final one.
No further milestones, only the final one.
No further milestones, only the final one.
The team for festivals:
Petr SmÄlĂk (producer / director) is running the festival part of the proposal.
Petr has a graphic designer and an account manager in his team.
Additionally Dinnie from Paradocs will be managing the festival selection.
In person screenings team:
Megan: Wada Cameroon Hub Co-Lead, Central Africa Coordination Lead, Wada core team member (Education and Event Lead), Maths & Physics teacher, bilingual (French & English)
Afia: West Africa coordination
Budget breakdown:
1) festivals
$1500 - 30 x festival submissions (The cost to submit to the film festival is $40-50 per festival on average)
$750 - administration, accounting - throughout the whole project (12 months, December 2023 - December 2024)
$1250 - running the social media and website throughout the whole project (12 months, December 2023 - December 2024)
$2000 - supporting graphic design and video promotion
$3000 - travel and accommodation costs for in-person festivals. For example for festival in Rwanda we are sending a representative who will present the movie and speak on behalf of the project. We need to support this person with travel and accommodation costs.
$2500 - producer's one time reward for running the project
2) our organized screenings
In person screenings in cinemas / schools / cultural halls
$2500 per one event x 5 = $12500
This includes the preparation, planning, travelling to the location, screening and presentation with the discussion after.
Specific locations will be revealed. Most likely are Accra, Douala, and Goma.
But we plan to do one or two screenings in Europe too.
Additionally we'll have a Public Relations support from Sustainable ADA
The overall budget is $25000 or approx. 95000 ada.
Please note the conversion to ada is based on the estimate of $0,26 per ada.
In case the price goes up we'd be happy to submit to more festivals or to organize one more screening. The same applies vice versa in case of price going down.
It's crucial to raise awareness about blockchain education in Africa.
Showing one movie that can breakdown the basics in 40 minutes and that can spark the dialogue about Cardano are money well spent I believe.
Please be aware that the documentary budget ($15 000 in F8) was rather low compared to other documentaries on the market.
And it's pretty common in this business to spend a similar amount for marketing and distribution efforts as for the production. That's why we're proposing this amount.
I strongly believe this movie can serve very well to support further adoption of Cardano in Africa.
