[SOLUTION] Please describe your proposed solution.
Lovelace Academy recently made a great Cardano course "Plutus experience" freely available on YouTube, but it's only available in English.
Brazil has more than 500 thousands developers (fifth position worldwide). As Brazilians, we know that if we really want to on-board more Brazilian developers into the Cardano Ecosystem, this course would need to be translated to Portuguese.
Our main objective is: increase the course reach and make sure Brazilian developers don't face language barriers during the course.
Our solution: the best value for money solution we found was through transcription and subtitling of the entire course.
The course has 12 modules and approximately 37 hours of duration.
What we'll deliver:
- Transcription and subtitling of all the 12 modules;
- Marketing campaign to increase course out reach.
[IMPACT] Please define the positive impact your project will have on the wider Cardano community.
Increasing the development activity in the Cardano Ecosystem is essential to its success. To do it, we need to on-board more developers.
That's essentially the impact we're aiming for.
To measure it, we can follow the visualization amount of the course from Brazil to see if we'll really get effective results.
The output of the project will be freely available in Lovelace Academy YouTube channel and we'll also share a report showing the results obtained.
[CAPABILITY & FEASIBILITY] What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability? How do you intend to validate if your approach is feasible?
Doing tech related translations isn't really easy as automatic generated translations is often very imprecise, because of the technical terms. Even automatic transcription is complicated depending on the speaker accent and diction.
So we took some steps to make sure we can deliver a high quality transcription and subtitle without increasing prohibitively the involved costs:
- We'll use an AI to generate the first version of the transcription;
- A Brazilian will do the proofreading of the transcription to correct any inaccurate words;
- We'll use an AI to generate the first version of the translation for the subtitle;
- A Brazilian technical translator will do the proofreading of the translation to correct any inaccurate words or literal translations.
For the marketing part, it'll be outsourced to Maria Carmo that already does this type of publicity for the Cardanistas Stake Pool content, so it isn't something new neither. Her strategy to increase course reach is:
- Networking with Brazilian web3 communities;
- Paid ads in Google and YouTube platforms;
- Communication strategy throughout Lovelace Academy social medias.

[RESOURCES] Who is in the project team and what are their roles?
Lucas Ribeiro will handle the human proofreading of both transcription and translation:
- 10+ years of experience in Information technology;
- 5+ years of experience specifically in Cybersecurity;
- Brazilian Portuguese native speaker;
- C2 Proficiency in English.
Marketing role:
- It'll be handled by Maria Carmo, because we need someone that has good networking with Brazilian Web3 community and experience doing marketing campaigns for web3 projects.
Documentation and reports:
- It'll be outsourced to a Brazilian professional that'll handle the creation of the reports and documentation. The necessary skills are English proficiency, good organization and compromise with the project's milestones.
[BUDGET & COSTS] Please provide a cost breakdown of the proposed work and resources.
Transcription part:
- AI first transcription generation: 2186 minutes x $0.25 = $546.50
- Human proofreading: 2186 minutes x $1.00 = $2,186.00
Subtitling part:
- AI first translation generation: 2186 minutes x $0.25 = $546.50
- Human proofreading: 2186 minutes x $1.50 = $3,279.00
Marketing and administration:
- Publicity and marketing budget: $900.00
- Documentation and reports: 36h x $15.00 = $540.00
- Marketing human resource: 15h x $30.00 = $450.00
Misc:
- $150.00 to cover possible ADA price fluctuations, specially for the AI, publicity and marketing budget
Total costs: $8,598.00 (22,627 ADA considering 1 ADA = $0.38)
[VALUE FOR MONEY] How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?
Transcription price:
- We searched for the best prices in both international and local companies and the lowest price was $1.50/minute for non-technical topics. That wouldn't apply to our case, but we tried to beat this price so there would be no questions about our compromise of using community funds in the most responsible way;
- Taking benefit of AI, we can generate the first version of the transcription for only $0.25/minute. The result won't be the best, but doing this way we can reduce the time for the human proofreading;
- Now that we already have a transcription, we can reduce the amount of work needed to get a high quality transcription. This reflects in a lower need for funds: $1.00/minute;
- This way, our total costs will be only $1.25/minute for the transcription. That's 17% less than the best price we got.
Translation price:
- The price range for this type of service went from $3.25/minute to $25.00/minute. The best prices were from local Brazilian companies;
- As we're dealing with a tech-related video, it's really hard to take cheaper translation service that won't sacrifice the quality of the job;
- Using our own expertise on the topic, we were able to reduce the involved costs to only $1.75/minute. That's 46% less than the best price we got.
Marketing and administrative tasks:
- Marketing is an essential part of our project, because without it the course would have very limited reach;
- We'll use a Brazilian marketing analyst, so we got a better price/hour;
- We'll also use a Brazilian to deal with the administrative tasks, so we also got a better price/hour.
