Background : 

The Comprehensive Entry-Level Cardano Developer Workshop 2024 will be hosted at MCU (Maranatha Christian University) in Bandung City, Indonesia. Mr. Oscar Karnalim, the Dean of the Faculty of IT and Engineering, has agreed to collaborate with Valdryan Ivandito and CryptoCalliburn as Cardano practitioners from the local Cardano Community in Indonesia. As we know, we are in the Industry 4.0 era where technology rapidly evolves, but unfortunately, the curriculum in formal education has not been updated regarding blockchain technology. The Dean of the Faculty of IT and Engineering, Mr. Oscar Karnalim said, 'In our curriculum, there is a lack of blockchain knowledge, and we don’t know where to get started.' So, that’s why we intend to host the 'Comprehensive Entry-Level Cardano Developer Workshop 2024' at MCU. Even though the workshop is hosted at MCU, it is open to the public, so students from other universities and people from the general public such as alumni with a background in technology can join the workshop.

The idea of this proposal is intended to try to solve two types of issues. The first issue concerns the lack of blockchain knowledge in formal education curriculum as mentioned above. The second issue pertains to the Cardano Ecosystem, which is not well known, especially in Indonesia. The Cardano ecosystem is not widely recognized; people generally only know about Bitcoin and EVM-based blockchains such as Ethereum. This is very unfortunate because developers who want to learn about Web3 usually start with EVM blockchains. If this continues, the Cardano ecosystem will be difficult to adopt due to the lack of interest from developers or contributors in developing the ecosystem and also the lack of users who want to use the Cardano ecosystem.

Solution:

The following are the ideas and solutions proposed from this proposal to try to solve this problem,

1. Hold training programs for lecturers and assistants in IT and engineering faculties for those who are enthusiastic and specifically selected to dedicate themselves to studying Cardano. This training program aims to regenerate practitioners and contributors who will develop the Cardano ecosystem. It is hoped that in the future they will actively spread knowledge about Cardano in their respective study program departments and also be actively involved globally in the Cardano communities and in Project Catalyst. The training for the trainers program consists of 24-sessions, each lasting 2 hours. Valdryan Ivandito as an MCU alumni who already has relationships with the Dean and lecturers will dedicate himself to sharing all knowledge and teaching all the knowledge he had about Cardano.
2. Organizing a Comprehensive Entry-Level Cardano Developer Workshop for IT and engineering students from MCU and other universities, as well as the general public such as alumni with a background in technology. The workshop consists of 7-sessions, each lasting 3 hours. In this workshop will discuss in a comprehensive but still concise manner the basic understanding of blockchain technology, the Cardano ecosystem, and the developer field on Cardano regarding MeshJS and Aiken. After participants attend and finish all sessions, they continue to a mini-hackathon.

[IMPACT] Please define the positive impact your project will have on the wider Cardano community

This project will bring positive impact in many aspects, through training programs and workshops will:

1. Increasing awareness of the Cardano blockchain and its ecosystem at one of the universities in Indonesia, so that adoption of Cardano blockchain technology can begin through formal education.
2. Regenerating human resources who have a formal education background who will contribute to the Cardano ecosystem. These people have professions such as lecturers and lab assistants where they are used to research work and have a framework for thinking like researchers so they are very suitable to contribute to Cardano, as we know that the vibe on Cardano is very strong towards formal methods.
3. Introducing educational platforms on Cardano, such as The Cardano Academy, Gimbalabs Plutus PBL, and Mesh PBL. Most people don't know where to start learning about Cardano because they're not familiar with the Cardano Educational Platform. Therefore, through this training and workshop program, people will become aware of the Cardano Educational Platform.
4. Introducing Cardano developer tools such as Detemer, Mesh, Blockfrost, Plutus Platform, and Aiken. Most developers who want to learn about Web3 usually use Ethereum developer tools such as Web3JS, EtherJS, and Solidity because they're not familiar with the Cardano developer tools. Therefore, through this training and workshop program, people will become familiar with the Cardano developer tools.
5. Introducing Cardano communities worldwide, from local to global communities around the world. After they learn about Cardano from the training and workshop program, they can continue to contribute and collaborate with the wider Cardano community.
6. Introducing Cardano Developer Communities such as Gimbalabs and Cardano Developer Community Indonesia. After they learn about Cardano from the training and workshop program, they can continue to study and contribute to the global developer community.

This proposal intention:

1. Through the 24 sessions of the training program, we can generate a minimum of 3 practitioners and contributors who are willing to dedicate themselves to learning and teaching about Cardano at MCU.
2. Through the 7 sessions, we can generate a minimum of 12 developers who are willing to become entry-level Cardano developers. They can continue learning and contributing to developer communities such as Gimbalabs and Cardano Developer Community Indonesia.
3. Through a mini hackathon, we can generate a minimum of 12 developers who can implement Cardano developer tools to build simple DApps or Web3 applications. The participants' GitHub repositories and documentation will be open to the public as evidence of this workshop and mini hackathon program. Additionally, the participants' GitHub repositories will serve as a showcase so that other developers become familiar with Cardano developer tools.

Need to know our project targets both qualitatively and quantitatively, we set them very realistically. We don’t want to set the targets too grandiosely. As we know, the impact of adoption in education is not instant, the results will not happen overnight, in a week, or even in a month. However, we still commit to documenting every repository, recorded video, reading materials, and all things that can be documented all train the trainers and workshop program, so our progress is transparent and has integrity.

• Choose a minimum of 3 candidates who are willing to dedicate themselves to learning Cardano and become participants in the train-the-trainers program.
• Determine a schedule of 8 sessions for the train-the-trainers and 2 sessions for the workshop program.
• Determine a team that is responsible for becoming moderators and lab assistants, as well as providing facilities for the workshop.

Project and Social Media Manager:

• Plan the promoting strategy for the workshop. 
• Prepare the food and beverage section for the workshop.
• Prepare the multimedia and video editor section for the workshop.

Volatility funds are obtained from 10% of the total budget (34840 ₳). This fund is used as an emergency fund if ₳ prices fluctuate and then fall. However, if at the end of the milestones and calculations in the financial report there is a remainder, then the remaining funds will be allocated: 50% to the proposers and the other 50% will be donated to local Cardano communities in Indonesia, such as the Indonesian Cardano Community and the Indonesian Cardano Developer Community. [VALUE FOR MONEY] How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

The proposer is confident that, despite the cost, it would greatly benefit the Cardano Ecosystem. The cost itself isn’t high, considering the syllabus and output that the proposer mentions. Other than a workshop, it also includes coaching for students and training for trainers for the Cardano ecosystem. This can happen because of the high interest from the university itself to make this happen.

This proposal also targets a specific market that has not yet been tapped in Indonesia: students majoring in development and their lecturers. This collaboration would have a greater impact than the cost stated above. It would benefit the Cardano Ecosystem by:

• Providing future developers with early exposure to Cardano.
• Attracting potential developers who are seeking opportunities for their future, thus opening up more opportunities for them.
• Identifying potential teachers for the Cardano ecosystem.
• Establishing potential collaborations with other universities through the involvement of lecturers.

Through this collaboration, the proposer believes it would provide more opportunities for the Cardano Indonesia community to host additional events and establish collaborations with several universities in Indonesia.
