Problem Statement

There is a growing need for dependable off-chain event triggers to power blockchain use cases.

A shipping oracle would make Cardano more relevant for real-world commerce by bridging trusted off-chain logistics data with on-chain transaction logic. It would enable new use cases—such as e-commerce platforms, rental agreements, or DeFi loans for goods—that depend on verified delivery events, expanding blockchain utility beyond purely financial transactions.

Proposed Solution

We will build a shipping oracle that integrates with a leading logistics provider (or aggregator API) to collect delivery status updates and publish attestations on-chain. Smart contracts will be able to consume these attestations as trusted signals to trigger automated actions—such as releasing escrowed funds upon confirmed delivery.

Key design principles

• Privacy-first – Only hashed shipment commitments will be stored on-chain, avoiding exposure of personally identifiable information (PII).
• Simplicity in MVP – The first version will focus on a single, high-value event: DELIVERED. This keeps complexity low while unlocking immediate utility. The initial version will function as a centralized oracle, meaning that data gathering and submision will be handled by a single entity. Future versions of the project will focus on decentralizing these concerns.
• Composable – The oracle will be packaged with SDKs and escrow contract templates so marketplaces, merchants, or other dApps can integrate it with minimal development effort.
• Future-ready – The architecture will allow expansion to additional shipping events, multiple carriers, and a staked/multi-signer oracle model for greater decentralization.

• Off-chain data fetcher: Pulls or receives webhooks from an external shipping data aggregator API (TBD)
• On-chain oracle contract: Stores hashed shipment identifiers, statuses, timestamps, and oracle signatures.
• Escrow contract template: That automatically releases funds on confirmed delivery or refunds after a timeout.
• Integration layer: Deliver SDKs for developers to easily link orders to tracking commitments.
• Support the DELIVERED event as the trigger for smart contract execution.
