Mention your open source license and describe your open source license rationale.
We chose the GNU General Public License (GPL) to ensure our code remains open source, transparent, and verifiable. The GPL requires that any improvements or modifications also be shared under the same license, preventing privatization, the creation of proprietary software and fostering collective progress. Since inheritance is a universal and sensitive issue, this approach builds trust, allows verifiability and higher security standards while allowing the community to benefit from ongoing innovation and improvements to the codebase.
How do you make sure your source code is accessible to the public from project start, and people are informed?
All code from this project will be published on a public GitHub repository under an open-source license with clear documentation
We’ll share progress, especially on smart contract development, via Twitter
Open-sourcing ensures transparency, peer review, and collaboration, key for a high-responsibility use case like inheritance
Anyone can verify, improve, and contribute, fostering trust and a community-driven approach to build a solution that serves both Web3 users and inheritance firms
GenWealth will use these smart contracts as the backbone to it's user-friendly Inheritance Dapp
How will you provide high quality documentation?
We have an experienced open-source developer who will lead the creation of the documentation for every milestone and smart contract delivered.
We will test the documentation with other developers in the space, to ensure the quality and clarity fo the documentation.
High-quality documentation is essential for expanding our contributor base and fostering long-term sustainability of the solution.
Please describe your proposed solution and how it addresses the problem
GenWealth will create a suite of smart contracts enabling a complete blockchain-based inheritance solution.
The architecture mirrors real-world inheritance processes:
This architecture has been designed in collaboration with inheritance firms and professionals, ensuring that it:
These contracts, create a strong competitive advantage for Cardano, by positioning it as a solution to catter to real world problems in a niche Industry, that moves trillions in value.
Thus suite of smart contracts, will be the backbone of the solution GenWealth is creating for Inheritance and Recovery.
Combining this with an intuitive user-friendly front-end we will take this solution to market starting with the Cardano and Bitcoin Ecosystem, and then expanding to serve real word Inheritance firms and professionals, which will leverage this technology to increase the efficiency of their Inheritance process.
Why This Is Urgently Needed
Crypto inheritance does not work, and GenWealth is here to fix it. Cases like Stefan Thomas, who lost access to $700 million in Bitcoin due to loosing access to the seedphrase, highlight a systemic issue, with 20% of Bitcoin’s supply lost forever due to missing recovery and inheritance solutions. Bitcoin shows us the roadmap for many other Blockchains, such as Cardano.
VanEck projects that $6 trillion in crypto assets will pass through the inheritance process in the next 20 years. At the same time, Merrill Lynch estimates $84 trillion in total assets will be inherited globally over the same period. Without a reliable solution, vast amounts of value are at risk.
GenWealth’s smart contracts directly address this gap by providing:
Open Source and Community Benefits
We’ve chose this open source approach, because while these contracts are useful for GenWealth they can be potentially very useful for other projects and individuals. This decision, will hopefully invite community review, security validation, and contributions, and ensuring:
These smart contracts, will also play an important role to showcase the potential of Cardano for high-impact real world financial usecases such as Inheritance, where characteristics such as determinism and security are very valuable. Additionally, Cardano being a ISO 20022 compliant cryptocurrency, which means it is compliant with the messaging standard used by banks worldwide, enables seamless future integration with traditional financial institutions.
These smart contract suite, will be based on functional requirements gathered from cryptocurrency users and inheritance professionals during testing sessions of our first-generation inheritance DApp (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3GIwvt1jCA)) . This ensures the solution is both user-driven and industry-ready, and solves signficant problems in a user friendly way, to increase the likelihood of adoption of the software
Please define the positive impact your project will have on the wider Cardano community
The development of these smart contracts will generate a legally compliant solution for Inheritance on Cardano, with the potential to be used both in Web 3 and in the real world by Inheritance professionals. They will serve as the backbone of GenWealth’s Inheritance and Recovery platform.
We will begin with the Cardano and Bitcoin ecosystems, where, according to the University of Illinois, an estimated $717 billion in assets are currently held in self-custody and at risk without effective inheritance mechanisms. But this is only the first step. Our vision is to expand into the real world by partnering with tokenization service providers, allowing inheritance firms to tokenize real-world assets and manage them directly through our DApp.
The long-term potential is significant. Over the next 20 years, an estimated $84 trillion in assets will pass through the inheritance process. Using our solution, firms could reduce execution costs from the current 3–10% to around 1%. Capturing even a modest 1.5% share of global inheritance flows would represent $63 billion in assets per year, driving substantial transaction volume and enabling a significant portion of real-world assets to be tokenized and managed on Cardano.
These smart contracts are a critical step toward realizing this broader vision. They also demonstrate Cardano’s ability to power real-world financial processes requiring high security, immutability, and integration with the traditional financial system.
By releasing the contracts as open source, we invite other firms and DApps to integrate inheritance capabilities into their own products, encouraging ecosystem-wide adoption and innovation while allowing for customized, use–case–specific implementations.
What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability? How do you intend to validate if your approach is feasible?
For the development of these smart contracts, we have the expertise of a highly experienced developer and his team, led by Leandros Holleman, who has developed and launched AnetaBTC V2, the largest Wrapped Bitcoin protocol on Cardano, and KeyPact (formerly BroClan), a multi-sig wallet solution on Cardano. He is also a pioneer in smart wallet technology, which will be a core component of the smart contracts we are building.
As proof of GenWealth’s ability to deliver, we have already created and deployed a first version of our DApp on Testnet (https://genwealth-56d653c6151d.herokuapp.com). This version was instrumental in gathering feedback from both crypto users and inheritance firms, which has directly shaped the design of our new smart contract architecture. More importantly, it demonstrated that a fully decentralized inheritance and recovery solution leveraging smart contracts is not only possible but functional.
From a feasibility standpoint, we are committed to achieving strong product market fit. That is why we are actively involving both crypto users and the inheritance industry professionals in our design and testing process, ensuring we fully understand the problem, overcome objections and hurdles, and accurately define the functional requirements for our final product.
Our team also includes members with direct experience in the inheritance industry, as well as in developing technology for this sector. We have conducted the necessary legal research to confirm the feasibility of our approach in real-world contexts.
Additionally, GenWealth is a part of the CV Labs Accelerator Program, giving us access to high-quality mentorship, strategic guidance, and resources to strengthen our go-to-market strategy and ensure the successful rollout of this technology.

How does the cost of the project represent value for the Cardano ecosystem?
Taking into account the costs, this proposal will deliver a complete suite of seven interconnected smart contracts, forming a comprehensive inheritance solution that covers both Web3 and traditional inheritance processes.
We are developing this solution with very competitive wages in our region, ensuring below-average rates without compromising on quality, in order to maximize value for Money for Cardano.
Potential Impact on Cardano - Long Run
The impact in the long-run of these smart contracts, considering they are the backbone for GenWealth Inheritance solution, could be huge for Cardano. It could help secure 12.6 billion ADA currently held in self-custody. With Cardano’s broader efforts to become “the DeFi lawyer for Bitcoin,” these smart contracts could be the backbone of a use case that attracts substantial Bitcoin liquidity. Lost crypto is a major problem, with Chainalysis estimating over 20% of Bitcoin’s total supply is lost forever due to the absence of inheritance and recovery mechanisms. By securing even a portion of the $707 billion in Bitcoin held in self-custody, we could make a meaningful contribution to solving this problem.
GenWealth will leverage these open-source smart contracts to create a user-friendly inheritance solution for both Cardano and Bitcoin users. Designed with input from inheritance professionals, the contracts will also be applicable for managing real-world wills and estate processes.
Real-World Expansion
Inheritance firms could use our solution to manage traditional estates more efficiently. Merrill Lynch estimates $84 trillion in assets will pass through the inheritance process in the next 20 years.
Even capturing a small share would be transformative for Cardano, both in transaction volume and in tokenizing real-world assets (RWAs) as part of will creation.
This could position Cardano as a highly relevant backbone technology for a critical yet underserved real-world industry.
Adoption Incentives
For Web3 users, adoption is simple; our dApp works like a standard wallet, with the added benefits of recovery and inheritance capabilities through smart contracts. This lowers the barrier to entry, improves security, and prepares users for any eventuality.
For inheritance firms, blockchain technology offers immutability, streamlined updates to wills, and greater efficiency in locating assets, identifying beneficiaries, and transferring ownership. This reduces both delays and costs, which currently range from 3–10% of an inheritance’s value to 1%.
Ecosystem Benefits
Because the smart contracts are open source, other Cardano DApps can integrate inheritance-ready features into their platforms. Real-world firms can also build on these contracts to offer their own inheritance-related services, bringing more assets, users, and use cases onto Cardano.
Considering the short-term benefits, but also the long-term benefits of this proposal, compared to a low cost for all the work developed, it feels like we are delivering a very good value for money.
