Local Team: Skilled bilingual (English/French) software developers and educators (STEM), hospitality, outreach, and marketing specialists
Purpose of Proposal
The overall goal is to make the Hub more accessible to average Cameroonian community members by offering incentives to attract people to the program such as: free childcare, older child tutoring, language courses/support, games, and snacks.
The main focus of education in these meet-ups will be around explaining the potential of Distributed Ledger Technology, and Financial education as a secondary focus. Being at an Anglophone school (located in a Francophone region) we will also offer language services to make the information accessible to all. This will set the ground for then next phase of our Hub which is DAG and Dapp development and integration.
Risk Management
Possible COVID-19 related risks: low turn-out to events. It is worth noting that the COVID-19 situation in Cameroon is being handled very well. The school we are in partnership with is back to full time attendance of students with masks and face shields, and have had no reported cases of COVID-19.
Although we do not see the pandemic situation in Cameroon posing a huge risk to turnout, we are already creating a virtual space for meet-ups as a way of connecting to other WADA network hubs. Therefore many services linked to our hub will be available virtually for those who are not comfortable gathering in person. This virtual space will also create a gateway for access to a much wider community of support, making a truly unique and supportive developer ecosystem.
Budget Breakdown: Total $9K
Personnel motivations (teachers, childcare): $5K
Tech accommodations (reinforce school's internet, zoom business account, upgrade online courses to business acct): $3K
Miscellaneous other (coffee machine, weekly snack purchases, office supplies, etc.): $1K
**Already have: educational materials, highly skilled technical team (specifically in Distributed Ledger Technology), school partnership, physical space
