No, this is not just another vindication trying to achieve fairer revenues distribution in music industry. It's a much more advanced concept.
However, yes, it's true. Music industry produces high revenues that are not fairly distributed among those who contribute to generate them, and with this proposal we are trying to solve this issue too. But we argue that this injustice is just the final step of a wrong conceived way of doing things. If after working a lot of time on creating a piece of music and struggling very hard for it to see the light, we eventually have to fight for our economic and property rights against almighty powers in music industry is because the whole way is a great mistake. Too much effort and hopes placed in a cruel world where the best not always get success, and what get success is not always the best. Actually it almost never is.
We think that, in order to change the whole paradigm, we have to change the whole way, and this change begins in the early steps. Let's give music projects the chance and support to be artistc and financially autonomous since the beginning.
Our main goal is to provide support to small and interesting music projects that would find hard to succeed by themselves. Yes, you are right: we are talking about MUSIC STARTUPS! In this sense we make easy for fans not only to support music projects, but also to become part of the project from the very beginning. Yes, you're right again: we are talking about being shareholders of your favourite band or artist!
OUR PROJECT
This proposal aims to transform the business of music industry, transferring power, currently in just a few hands, to bands, artists and fans, the main and true architects and protagonists of the cultural and economic benefits that are generated.
Usually, for a band or artist to prosper in the established business, interference of intermediaries of this system becomes necessary. Theses intermediaries take most of the profits, leaving just the crumbs for creative artists.
And what about the fans? Traditionally they have been completely marginalized by giving them a role of mere consumers, without possibility of participation in musical projects that they passionately want to support.
Additionally, the nature of this business creates a filter that causes that only a few artists, often not the most talented, obtain wide promotion and dissemination on the mainstream media. This bias is impoverishing society in terms of culture.
One of our strongest beliefs and commitments is to help small bands and artists to grow, creating a musical cosmos where everyone has the chance to be heard. Thus, we want to favor small voices by providing them economic support they need to keep pushing; in consequence, our economic system of rewards will be unbalanced in favor of these small voices, not just bands and artists but also fans.
As experienced musicians, we know music business well enough to be convinced that, like many others businesses, it needs to be turned upside down for justice to appear. We also believe that the disruptive technology of the blockchain, and specifically the Cardano project, can provide support for a new way of conceiving this business through the tokenization of the management of musical projects and the distribution of its economic benefits.
OUR PLAN
We intend to create a platform onto Cardano blockchain to regulate relationships between bands / artists and fans.
Economic aspects will be regulated through two types of tokens: platform tokens and band/artist tokens.
In the same way as a traditional company, each band or artist is represented by a determined number of fungible tokens that can be acquired by fans onto the platform. From this point of view fans are shareholders of the band or artist.
In order to access this market, fans must previously acquire platform tokens, which have the functional role of internal exchange value. In addition, these tokens serve as economic support for the platform itself as well as governance mechanism. These tokens can be traded on crypto markets.
All the relationships between bands/artists and fans are established through smart contracts. In any case there will at least two main compromises from bands / artists: to deliver regularly audiovisual content and to return economic rewards to fans in consideration to their support.
Rewards are mainly generated through the staking of the band / artist tokens that fans have acquired, although searching for other types of financial revenues could be considered by the platform managers. Fans will be also be able to get more revenue by promoting their bands and artists in various ways.
Therefore fans prove their fidelity to their favourite bands and artists by acquiring the corresponding tokens. The platform will manage the allocation of these tokens in pools or other financial tools in order to generate revenues for bands and artists, who will finally determine the rewards they deliver to their fans. At any moment, fans can rescind their contract of fidelity and claim the refund of the original investment, and tokens liberated will be available to be acquired for a new fan.
Furthermore, fans can obtain additional rewards by consuming and spreading audiovisual products of their bands and artists, attending their live shows, etc.
Moreover, the owning of these utility tokens will confer fans the right to vote in strategic decisions of bands and artists, that is, governance.
