Perceived Problem :
Studying the findings of Eastern Catalyst School Indonesia, Japan and Viet Nam operations, the Indonesian team have identified 5 (five) elements that hinders participation of the largest market and human resource (student and general population alike) base for Cardano in the Eastern Hemisphere, which is Indonesia.
With a government that is increasingly blockchain and crypto friendly, a stable political and economical environment, a strong middle class of 52 million citizens and a crypto trading market value of USD $19.7 billion to USD $55.9 billion. Opening Indonesia to adopt and build on Cardano will be beneficial for us -the Cardano community- in various fronts.
Various fronts here being ; potential of government adoption, potential of mass adoption and potential of outside capital influx into our ecosystem.
Hence these 5 (five) elements must be addressed ;
- accessible, free and easy-to-learn materials on everything Cardano in Indonesian
- the persistent perceived difficulty of building on Cardano must be corrected
- the opportunities of Project Catalyst, the nature of it's funding and learning on Cardano must be introduced in a manner that is human resource intensive which is through direct tutoring due to the abundance of "new" concepts and terminologies
- to target specifically students as per the findings of Eastern Catalyst School Viet Nam
- the need to partner with official reputable education entities in Indonesia
Reasons of Our Approach :
Data is our main driving factor. Initial teachings of Catalyst School (which for the sake of easy reference we self label as Catalyst School ver. 1.0) is effective in increasing awareness of Project Catalyst with it's potential financial benefits and Cardano.
The improvement done by the Viet Nam community led by Linh Pham on the teachings of Catalyst School (which we self label as Catalyst School ver. 2.0) is even more effective in increasing Cardano adoption, increasing number of proposal submission into Project Catalyst through tutoring and increasing the number of dApps created.
The supporting data and numbers can be found in our following report at this link : Eastern Catalyst School Close-out Report . In this report, through Catalyst School ver. 1.0 where the Indonesian team has followed through to the teeth, saw a steady and strong interest into Project Catalyst, specifically the growth of Community Advisors (CA) and Veteran Community Advisors (vCA) where it is now at 50 members.
CA's and vCA's (which are now called Community Reviewers and Moderators) have key functions in ensuring quality proposals are submitted into the Project Catalyst. Having this as a backdrop, CA's and vCA's can in return tutor their local community to create the best proposal possible.
Catalyst School ver. 1.0 though was ineffective in the creation of interest to submit proposal. Through Catalyst School ver. 2.0 we have seen a huge increase in proposal submission. Viet Nam's community proposal progression went from single digits are now into 20-30 proposals each Fund series.
A mixture between Catalyst School ver. 2.0 and specific targeting of students has resulted in the creation of 5 (five) dApps from the Viet Nam community. Those dApps are as following :
- Tamper Proof Certificate base on Cardano Blockchain
- Crypto Payment Gateway on Cardano
- Tracking Ownership of Digital Artworks on the Blockchain Platform
- NFT Creator Tool for Non-Tech Users
- Voting Application on Blockchain
Through this proposal, we seek to replicate the Viet Nam communities effort and take it further several steps ahead by :
- collaborative education effort with an official reputable education entity in Indonesia, which is Gadjah Mada University (UGM), a top 3 Indonesian university and top 50 Asian university
- creating end-to-end free education pipeline starting from the integration of Cardano Foundation's Blockchain Education Alpha continuing into the integration of Plutus Project Based Learning (PPBL) ver. 2.0 into the existing curriculum/extracurricular activities of UGM and culminating into the integration of Catalyst School ver. 2.0 as a Project Catalyst onboarding platform
- Building trust to become UGM's trusted blockchain partner and blockchain of choice where UGM is regularly given blockchain based government programs through Cardano Foundation
Projects Forecasted Users :
Being based on data -albeit limited- allows us to build upon the existing findings, which are to continue targeting students and building strong relationships with official educational institution. The goal of this collaborative effort is :
- through UGM and potential collaboration with it's various student body entities, Cardano will be made aware to a large pool of talent, with details as following :
- UGM's social media allows exposure to approx. 1 million talents
- Potential collaborative student body entities with Cendekia Teknika FT UGM allows exposure to approx. 1400 talents
- through this specific collaboration with the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of UGM, Cardano will have access to a continuous stream of potential builders, with details as following :
- total standing pool of approx. 1500 students at any given time
- total standing pool of approx. 125 students at any given time interested in Computer Science
- consistent stream of approx. 190 new students per semester through Electrical Engineering and Information Technology Department
- consistent steam of approx. 120 new students per semester through Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department
We believe a large pool of devs = more accessible talent pool = increased adoption = increased potential of industry breaking dApps solutions = increased potential market/user and repeat
Demonstrating Our Impact :
To achieve our belief above is through an end-to-end free education pipeline starting from the integration of Cardano Foundation's Blockchain Education Alpha continuing into the integration of Plutus Project Based Learning (PPBL) ver. 2.0 into the existing curriculum/extracurricular activities of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and culminating into the integration of Catalyst School ver. 2.0 as a Project Catalyst onboarding platform.
All of which are a precursor to the development of an Open-Source Dev Learning Management System called Andamio. From the learning process above, students will then practice their learnings by developing a sectioned module of Andamio.
To entice these students to develop Andamio, we will be using a mix between bounties and token distribution as a form of participation. By showing this token of participation, it will act as a precursor to indicate to industries/entities/companies that the pool of students in Andamio are industry ready talent.
This is our end goal ;
An end-to-end free education pipeline that is native to Cardano that connects Cardano with a consistent pool of students, educated by devs from the Cardano community to practice building on real Cardano use-cases and leveraging the network of Cardano Town Halls to attract industries/entities/companies.
All these processes will be automated and on-chain through the completed Andamio Learning Management Systems done by a mix of the Cardano community and Andamio founders.
Our solutions will consists of :
- Translate Project Catalyst documents as per official website into Indonesian as the main learning resources for UGM students/lectures and general Cardano community(which will available on the current Eastern Town Hall’s website)
- Educate individuals from UGM students/lectures and local Cardano community via workshops as per the current Project Catalyst developments (spanning a duration of 4 (four) months with 2 (two) workshops of 2 (two) hour duration per month). Topics to be covered are : (which will be uploaded on the Eastern Town Hall’s YouTube channel)
- What is Project Catalyst? - Week 1
- What is and how to become an ethical Community Reviewer? - Week 3
- What is and how to become an ethical Community Moderator? - Week 5
- What is and how to do an ethical Proof-Of-Achievement? - Week 7
- What is and how to submit a quality proposal Part 1? - Week 9
- What is and how to submit a quality proposal Part 2? - Week 11
- Followed by the integration of the Eastern Town Hall program Catalyst Incubator (a total of 75 hours in the last month) to be part of the education/experience pipeline of Catalyst School where participants are given :
- One-to-one private sessions to learn to build a proposal and team - 60 hours
- Suggestion to integrate proposing team(s) when possible - 3 (three) hours
- Presentation sessions with groups of participants to foster courage and identify improvements to participant proposals - 3 (three) hours
- Final presentation sessions with UGM and Cardano community leaders such as ; UGM lecturers, KOL (key opinion leaders), Swarm founders, Town Hall founders, Gimbalabs founders, etc. (which will be uploaded on the Eastern Town Hall's YouTube channel) - 3 (three) hours
- Guidance to promote their proposal to the Cardano community - 6 (six) hours
- Integrate Catalyst School : Chapter Indonesia as a part of UGM's Cardano Learning Experience in the form of a curriculum/extracurricular which will take place 1 (one) month prior to the start of a Fund series
- Integrate the end-to-end education pipeline as a part of UGM's Cardano Learning Experience in the form of a curriculum/extracurricular in cross-collaboration with UGM student body entities such as :
- Keluarga Mahasiswa Teknik Mesin UGM (Mechanical Engineering Student Body)
- Keluarga Mahasiswa Teknik Elektro dan Teknologi Informatika UGM (Electrical Engineering and Information Technology Student Body)
- Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Industri UGM (Industrial Engineering Student Body)
- Cendekia Teknika FT UGM (Faculty of Engineering Student Body)
- Provide dedicated Discord/Telegram channels through the Cardano Indonesia community channels to continuously support and answer questions from the UGM lectures and students and general Cardano community spanning a duration of 4 (four) months
[IMPACT] How does your proposed solution address the challenge and what benefits will this bring to the Cardano ecosystem?
Catalyst School : Chapter Indonesia is a progression from Eastern Catalyst School Indonesia. It is founded on the learnings of Eastern Catalyst School Indonesia where it was identified the need to have an official collaboration with local education entities to entice the most potential participants of Project Catalyst in Indonesia, which are students.
Project Catalyst is daunting for the general Indonesian and students alike. Despite the best efforts of Eastern Catalyst School Indonesia, participation from the general Indonesian was extremely low in comparison towards their Viet Nam and Japanese counterparts, who in total submitted up to 40 to 50 proposals each Fund respectively, in comparison only 6 from the general Indonesian.
Foster Student Catalyst Proposers and Blockchain Engineers
By having this official collaboration with Gadjah Mada University (UGM), paired with the end-to-end education pipeline, we anticipate a large participation increase from Indonesians, specifically UGM students/lecturers. Having a guiding voice directly from their lecturers that urges students to study on Cardano is key in this increased participation likelihood.
To support potential student start-ups nearing the end of their UGM's Cardano Learning Experience, we will provide a holistic understanding of Project Catalyst through numerous workshops. Educating from the internal components involved ; such as Community Reviewers, Community Moderators to Proof-Of-Achievement Reviewers to showcase to lecturers and students that Project Catalyst is no different than submitting a thesis in their university. The goal is to eliminate the anxiety of even participating in Project Catalyst.
From there we will continue to educate and support lecturers and students on the methods to build together a quality proposal, from wholesale workshops to one-to-one sessions. Strengthening their self-esteem in preparation of their proposal being viewed by the global Cardano community.
As a final technical and mental preparation, we will have a final presentation of all participants' proposals with an audience of fellow participants, UGM lecturers and Catalyst School educators. A process that we call Catalyst Incubator. Therefore our efforts will increase the number of student/lecturer participants in Project Catalyst from Indonesia.
Increasing Student Catalyst Proposers and Blockchain Engineers
As this is an official collaboration with UGM where their focus as an education institution is to create their own blockchain dev ecosystem, eventually we will have a consistent pipeline of blockchain start-ups by students/lecturers and local dev community who became educated on Cardano through this pipeline.
Most of all this end-to-end education pipeline of ; Cardano Foundation's Blockchain Education Alpha + Gimbalabs PPBL ver. 2.0 + Catalyst School ver. 2.0 + Andamio, can then be an option to simply "copy+paste" and present to universities worldwide.
[IMPACT] How do you intend to measure the success of your project?

- video : continuously during the duration of program starting from September 2023
Integration with Future RND :
Stress-testing the results of Eastern Catalyst School Viet Nam through these further advanced efforts of Catalyst School : Chapter Indonesia, will further validate the initial findings of Catalyst School ver. 2.0 which is to achieve increased Cardano adoption on the education front is through targeting students.
Factor in 5 (five) findings of Catalyst School : Chapter Indonesia and the integration of the end-to-end education pipeline, in theory there will be a noticeable uptick of the metrics intended to be achieved by this proposal, which in short is increased proposal submissions.
Having and stress-testing this end-to-end education pipeline, will provide the larger Cardano community with a proven tool to increase adoption. They will then have a choice to simply integrate the system with it's findings and fine tune it to the needs of their community.
The goal is having a proven system, trusted by the community, therefore any Cardano community around the globe who seeks to increase adoption in the education front needs not start from zero to seek validation of their education program and can just simply implement this program.
Past results will be their validation. It will eventually boil down to the team they have setup and the educational institution they intend to partner with. Town Halls are the perfect avenue to deliver this solution for they have intimate insights of their community.
Town Halls operators, educated on their potential and provided structure will yield global data. Hence, the larger picture that Catalyst School : Chapter Indonesia is part of, which the is the creation of an end-to-end education pipeline of ; Cardano Foundation's Blockchain Education Alpha + Gimbalabs PPBL ver 2.0 + Catalyst School ver. 2.0 + Andamio, is potentially game changing and will provide Cardano a plethora of data.
This collaboration with Gadjah Mada University is a precursor to that. Done well, documented well can then be an option to simply "copy+paste" and present to universities worldwide. That is only from the perspective of education. Andamio in it's final form, has applications far reaching than only education.

Validating our Goals :
- In order to achieve easy duplication of Catalyst School : Chapter Indonesia, our progress in all our intended reporting forms must be sequential and meticulous with clear key learnings. To avoid over repetition we have stated in length and detail in the above questions regarding the methodology
- These reporting forms and the end results of Catalyst School : Chapter Indonesia shall than be part of our presentation to various universities in Indonesia. At this very moment we have already targeted a university for our second iteration besides with UGM. In this university we have identified already a lecturer who is an avid supporter of Cardano. All that is left is our presentation which we will share with the community
- For integration as an extracurricular/curriculum to happen would heavily depend on our performance to deliver Catalyst School : Chapter Indonesia in a structured and engaging manner where we have already initiated numerous testcases which you can find in our numerous recorded sessions here : Eastern Catalyst School Indonesia Sessions
- For creation of a Cardano base student body entity and a successful collaboration with existing official UGM student body entity would need 3 (three) essentials :
- The support of the university which we have already obtained
- An individual who will act as on-site liaison which the university has already identified
- A representative of our team who will educate and guide the students on the mission of Cardano and Project Catalyst which we have already prepared

[RESOURCES & VALUE FOR MONEY] How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?
Value for Money Justification :
- Overall cost of our project is calculated based on the following factors : (as per 2022)
- Minimum regional compensation for Jakarta/Jogjakarta as per Indonesian regulations (Jakarta is the second highest minimum regional pay in Indonesia)
- Freelancers/remote workers in Indonesia
- Student based extracurricular compensation (e.g. Lecturer Assistant) in Jogjakarta
- University administration for new student body entity expenditure in Jogjakarta (typically subsidized by university based on previous yearly operations)
- University student body entity operation allocation/expenditure in Jogjakarta (typically subsidized by university based on previous yearly operations)
- University lecturer fee at Gadjah Mada University (UGM)
- University fee until graduation at Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of UGM
- The numerical value of the above points are as following : (USD $1 = IDR 15.200)
- Minimum regional compensation (applicable to physical labor/low level employee) in Jakarta : approx. IDR 4.900.000 = USD $322.36 per month
- Minimum regional compensation (applicable to physical labor/low level employee) in Jogjakarta : approx. IDR 1.900.000 = USD $125 per month
- Starting pay for UGM graduates (as an average - highly dependent of industry entered) in Jakarta : approx. IDR 10.000.000 = USD $657.89 per month
- Starting pay for UGM graduates (as an average - highly dependent of industry entered) in Jogjakarta : approx. IDR 5.000.000 = USD $328.94 per month
- Freelancers/remote workers in Indonesia (as an average range - dependent of industry entered, skill competency, domicile) : approx. IDR 2.500.000 - IDR 8.500.000 = USD $164.47 - $559.21 per month
- Student based extracurricular compensation (as an average) in Jogjakarta : approx. IDR 1.500.000 - IDR 2.000.000 = USD $98.6 - $131.57 per month
- University administration for 1 (one) new student body entity expenditure in Jogjakarta (typically subsidized by university) : approx. IDR 200.000 - IDR 500.000 = USD $13.1 - $32.89 per entity
- University student body entity operation allocation/expenditure for 1 (one) entity in Jogjakarta (as an average - highly dependent area of study) : approx. IDR 18.000.000 - IDR 30.000.000 = USD $1.184.21 - $1.973,68 per semester/4 (four) months
- University lecturer fee at UGM (as an average at a Doctor/Ph.D level) : approx. IDR 15.000.000 = USD $986.84 per month
- University fee until graduation at Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering of UGM (higher end) for 4 (four) years : approx. IDR 112.000.000 = USD $7.368,42 for 4 (four) years
- In comparison to their American/European counterparts, in general which are :
- Lowest minimum wage for US citizens is USD $7.25 per hour under the same assumption same work hours of their Indonesian counterparts = USD $1.334 per month = IDR 20.276.800 per month or 4X that of Jakarta's and 10.6X of Jogjakarta's (this is not considering Jakarta is the second highest minimum wage in Indonesia)
- Lowest minimum wage for EU citizens is €399 under the same assumption same work hours of their Indonesian counterparts = USD $437,66 per month = IDR 6.652.432 per month or 1.35X that of Jakarta's and 3.5X of Jogjakarta's (this is not considering Jakarta is the second highest minimum wage in Indonesia)
- Average Student Allocation Fund of American Universities equivalent to the level of UGM (in terms of facilities quality and not graduates outlook and regional influence) range from USD $1.000 to USD $4.000 per event (dependent on universities e.g. this and that)
- Average Student Allocation Fund of European Universities equivalent to the level of UGM (in terms of facilities quality and not graduates outlook and regional influence) range from USD $300 to USD $2.600 per event (dependent on universities e.g. this and that)
- In comparison to the funds requested with direct deliverables and potential outcomes :
- With 23.421 ADA or USD $6.792,25 (ADA rate $0.29) the Cardano community will be receiving at the very least for/after 5 (five) months :
- 3 (two) Incubator educators and mentors
- 1 (one) Project Catalyst documentation translators
- 1 (one) partnership manager
- 2 (two) project managers (these individuals also serves three to four positions)
- 2 (two) full-time community managers
- 2 (two) Doctor's/Ph.D's. as advisors and network multiplier
- 1 (one) tried and tested Catalyst School ver. 2.0 syllabus
- 1 (one) top university partner
- Potential of an endless stream of proposal submissions by students/student led start-ups
- Potential of Cardano becoming UGM's trusted blockchain partner and blockchain of choice where UGM is regularly given blockchain based government programs through Cardano Foundation, which is priceless
- Under the aforementioned Indonesian finances the human resource alone for 5 (five) months would be approx. be $13.815,78
- Comparing point (a) and point (b) and from a human resource perspective only, we believe our project provides value for money for our quotation is below fair/full price as per aforementioned Indonesian financial standards let alone comparing that to our western counterparts financial standards
[IMPORTANT NOTE] The Applicant agreed to Fund10 rules and also that data in the Submission Form and other data provided by the project team during the course of the project will be publicly available.
