This proposal is part of a family of proposals that collectively aim to create Buriza, a comprehensive Cardano wallet software suite spanning mobile, browser, and desktop applications. Buriza, named after the Japanese word for Blizzard, which symbolizes a powerful bow or cannon, is designed to be the best open-source, fully decentralized, and cross-platform Cardano wallet. It will empower users with maximum control over their entire wallet infrastructure. By combining open-source transparency, backend flexibility, and utilizing a standardized protocol for interacting with UTxO-based blockchains through the UTxO RPC standard, Buriza will enable users to self-host, choose their backend servers, self-verify and install the software, and fully customize the wallet’s security, privacy, and functionality to meet their specific needs. 

To power Buriza across various platforms, this proposal focuses on Buriza.Browser, a decentralized browser extension built for managing Cardano wallets. It will offer all the standard features akin to a Cardano wallet but with more robust capabilities, along with it being self-verifiable and customizable which allows users to configure their own servers and interact securely with dApps. Unlike typical browser extensions, Buriza.Browser will provide users with full control, including the option to manually install from local source code, giving users full transparency and control over the security of the extension. By reducing reliance on third-party platforms, it will enhance security, usability, and integrate seamlessly with the Buriza suite across platforms. 

 

Problem Statement 

There are various Cardano wallets available today, and while they are functional and serve their purpose, they still come with the following significant limitations:  

• Centralized Dependency: Many wallets depend on third-party services or centralized backend servers to access blockchain state, introducing potential security risks and undermining long-term reliability, particularly if these servers go offline or are shut down. 

 

• Closed-Source: The rise of closed-source wallets means users can no longer inspect the code, raising concerns about security vulnerabilities and lack of accountability. 

 

• Limited User Control: Many wallets limit users' control over wallet infrastructure, making it challenging to interact with UTxO-based blockchains in a decentralized manner. This not only undermines user autonomy and privacy but also restricts the user’s ability to customize the wallet according to their individual preferences. 

 

• Poor User Experience: Existing wallets often face issues such as unclear transaction dialogs, confusing account balance displays, and challenges in rendering digital assets like NFTs or media (e.g., audio and books). Additionally, transaction history is often poorly organized, making it difficult for both crypto-native and average users to understand their activities. Furthermore, many wallets are limited to specific platforms—available on mobile but not desktop—resulting in inconsistent user experiences across devices. 

 

• Insufficient Decentralization: Although some wallets allow users to edit the submission node, this is not enough to ensure true decentralization, as many still rely on third-party infrastructure for essential functions like balance and transaction history retrieval. 

 

• Failure to Comply with Standards: Several wallets fail to comply with Cardano Improvement Proposal (CIP) standards, limiting interoperability, security, and compatibility within the ecosystem. 

To highlight these differences, a comparison table between existing Cardano wallets and Buriza will be provided to illustrate how Buriza will overcome these limitations.

• Decentralized, Self-Verifiable Browser Extension: Buriza.Browser will be a decentralized browser extension specifically designed for managing Cardano wallets and interacting with Cardano dApps. Unlike third-party browser wallets, it offers users full control over their environment, with self-verifiable installation options and server configurations, ensuring transparency and security. 

 

• Optimized for dApp Interaction: Buriza.Browser will allow seamless access to Cardano decentralized applications, offering a smooth and efficient user experience.

 

• Configurable Backend and Self-Hosting Options: Users will have the flexibility to configure their own backend servers or self-host their Buriza.Browser wallet in their local machine, giving them full control over how their wallet interacts with the blockchain which they can subsequently utilize in their browser as an extension. This enhances decentralization and empowers users with more control over their security and privacy settings. 

 

• Cross-Platform Integration: Although primarily a browser extension, Buriza.Browser will ensure compatibility across both mobile and desktop platforms, providing users with a unified experience. It will integrate seamlessly with other components of the Buriza suite, such as Buriza.Desktop and Buriza.Mobile, allowing consistent wallet management across devices. 

 

• Enhanced Security: Buriza.Browser will be built with security as a primary focus, reducing the risks associated with third-party browser vulnerabilities. By offering a self-verifiable and decentralized architecture, users can ensure that their wallet interactions and transactions are protected from external threats. 

 

• Simplified User Experience: Buriza.Browser will address common issues found in existing wallets, such as unclear transaction dialogs, confusing balance displays, and difficulties rendering digital assets like NFTs, audio, and books. With over fifteen (15) years of full-stack development experience across diverse platforms such as cloud, gaming, mobile, and server environments, I can confidently say that my comprehensive and diverse background uniquely qualifies me to lead this initiative. As the founder of SAIB Inc., a company specializing in blockchain technologies, I have successfully spearheaded several innovative projects on the Cardano platform. My collaboration with key entities such as TxPipe, dcSpark, Crashr, Coinecta, Levvy, and the Cardano Foundation highlights my strong understanding and deep commitment to the Cardano ecosystem.   

 

In addition to my leadership role, I bring hands-on experience as the operator of the ADAPH stake pool, and I have contributed to the development of open-source Cardano tools—further advancing the platform's functionality and accessibility. Milestone 1: UI/UX Design for Browser Extension (Month 1-2)

Objective: Design the user interface and experience for Buriza.Browser, tailored specifically for a browser extension workflow. The design will focus on seamless integration of wallet functionalities into the browser, providing intuitive access to Cardano dApps, transaction management, and self-verifiable installation processes. The design will also accommodate users configuring their own backend servers and interacting with decentralized applications directly. 

 

Deliverables: 

• Wireframes and mockups for extension screens (e.g., sending, receiving assets, viewing balance and assets, transaction history, full node setup, and dApp access, etc.)
• Report covering design decisions, usability considerations, and browser extension-specific accessibility features. 

Milestone 2: Implement the Design for the Extension (Month 3-4)

Objective: Develop the Buriza.Browser extension as per the UI/UX design. This includes building the browser extension’s front-end for key wallet interactions. The implementation will focus on the unique needs of a browser extension, ensuring it functions securely and efficiently within the browser environment while allowing users to configure backend settings and interact with decentralized applications seamlessly. 

 

Deliverables: 

• Source code for front-end components of the browser extension. 
• Integration of wallet features, such as sending, receiving assets, viewing balance and assets, transaction history, full node setup, and dApp access, etc.
• Report outlining the progress of the implementation and challenges encountered during the development of the browser extension. 

Milestone 3: Integrate Buriza.Core with the Extension (Month 4-5)

Objective: Integrate Buriza.Core functionalities into Buriza.Browser, ensuring smooth interaction between the extension and Buriza.Core’s API. The focus will be on providing secure, decentralized access to Cardano dApps, enabling users to configure their own servers, build and sign transactions, and manage assets directly through the browser extension. The integration will allow Buriza.Browser to offer robust Cardano wallet features while operating entirely within the browser environment. 

 

Deliverables: 

• Integration of Buriza.Core features into the browser extension. 
• Smooth data flow between the extension interface and blockchain data. 
• Report detailing any integration challenges specific to the browser extension environment and solutions implemented. 

Milestone 4: Testing & Performance Optimization for Browser Extension (Month 5-6)

Objective: Conduct comprehensive testing of Buriza.Browser to ensure stability, security, and performance within different browser environments. This includes functional tests to ensure all Buriza.Core integrations work seamlessly, performance testing under real-world conditions, and stress tests simulating high transaction volumes. Special attention will be given to the unique performance and security requirements of a browser extension, including manual installation and user-controlled backend configurations.

The launch will also focus on educating users about the self-verifiable installation process, server configuration options, and dApp interactions through the extension.
