Describe what makes your idea innovative compared to what has been previously funded (whether by you or others).
Our innovation lies in creating a trust layer for patient-generated health data, a critical gap not addressed by existing health apps or many previously funded blockchain projects.
The core innovation is this "verifiable data bridge." It empowers patients with true ownership of a lifelong, tamper-proof health record, secured by their Cardano wallet. This moves beyond theoretical use cases and provides a practical blueprint for Decentralized Health (DeHealth) on Cardano, demonstrating its utility for high-assurance data integrity in the massive healthcare sector.
Describe what your prototype or MVP will demonstrate, and where it can be accessed.
Our prototype will be a functional, web-based Proof-of-Concept (PoC) DApp that demonstrates the core value of our solution. It will showcase the following key functionalities: seamless wallet integration, on-chain data anchoring and data integrity verification
The MVP will be publicly accessible via a web link. This link will be shared with the community upon the completion of Milestone 2, allowing anyone to test the functionality by connecting their own testnet wallet.
Describe realistic measures of success, ideally with on-chain metrics.
Our measures of success are designed to be realistic and verifiable, with a strong emphasis on tangible on-chain metrics that demonstrate real-world utility.
- Primary On-Chain Metric: transaction volume: Our core success metric will be the number of data-anchoring transactions generated on the Cardano testnet.
- Key Off-Chain & Community Metrics: user adoption, clinical validation and open-source engagement.
These combined metrics will provide a comprehensive picture of our project's success, demonstrating not only technical feasibility but also user acceptance and community value.
[Your Project and Solution] Solution
Please describe your proposed solution and how it addresses the problem
The problem of unreliable and fragmented health data is a global issue, but it is especially acute in regions like Ethiopia, where millions managing chronic conditions like diabetes lack a consistent, trustworthy health history. This leads to ineffective treatment and puts patient health at risk.
Our solution, Glucose Guardian, directly addresses this by building upon the existing, functional glucose tracking application. With this foundation already in place, we will integrate Cardano to transform it into a decentralized DApp that puts patients in control of their own verifiable health records.
Core Blockchain Features We Will Build
- Immutable Health Ledger: Instead of storing every single entry on-chain, which can be inefficient, we will use a more robust method. Daily glucose readings will be cryptographically hashed, and this unique hash will be anchored to the Cardano blockchain via a transaction. This creates an immutable, tamper-proof, and cost-effective audit trail. Anyone can verify that the data has not been altered since it was recorded.
- Smart Contract-Verified Data: We will develop Plutus smart contracts that govern how data hashes are submitted and recorded. This ensures all data meets a predefined standard before being anchored on-chain, creating a "Glucose Guardian Standard" for data integrity.
- Patient-Controlled Access: Your Cardano wallet becomes the key to your health data. Users will have sole control over their records and can grant or revoke access to healthcare providers or researchers, ensuring true data sovereignty without relying on a central authority.
Why Cardano is Essential for Glucose Guardian
Our choice of Cardano is deliberate and leverages the platform's unique strengths for this specific use case:
- High Assurance & Security: For sensitive health data, security is non-negotiable. Cardano’s peer-reviewed, methodical design provides the reliability and robustness required to be a trusted neutral ledger for medical records.
- Low & Predictable Fees: Patients may log data multiple times a day. Cardano's fee structure makes anchoring daily health data affordable and sustainable, a critical factor for long-term adoption, unlike other chains with volatile gas fees.
- Rich Transaction Metadata: We will utilize Cardano's ability to include detailed metadata in transactions. This allows us to efficiently store data hashes and other verification information directly on the blockchain without excessive complexity.
Who We Will Engage
Our initial pilot program will focus on a clearly defined group to ensure meaningful feedback and measurable impact. We will partner with a local health clinic to onboard an initial cohort of 50-100 diabetic patients. This focused approach will allow us to refine the user experience and prove the model's effectiveness before a wider rollout.
What Makes Our Solution Unique
While other health trackers exist, Glucose Guardian is unique because it creates a bridge of trust between the patient's self-reported data and the healthcare system. It’s not just about storing data; it's about making it verifiable. This project is important to Cardano because it moves beyond theory and provides a tangible blueprint for patient-owned, decentralized health records—a massive real-world use case where trust and security are paramount. It will serve as a foundational project, attracting further health-tech innovation to the Cardano ecosystem.
Current Progress
A functional glucose tracker app is already developed with key features including blood glucose level tracking, A1C estimates, advanced data filtering, CSV/PDF export, and email sharing of data with healthcare providers. The web application is mobile-friendly, offering an intuitive and adaptive interface for users on different devices. Additionally, the platform supports the import of glucose data via CSV, making it easy for users to manage existing data.
The next phase involves integrating blockchain features such as on-chain glucose data storage, secure data verification, and decentralized identity (DID) login. The repository is publicly available, and the groundwork for blockchain integration has been set. We are prepared to begin development of these blockchain enhancements upon receiving funding.

[Your Project and Solution] Impact
Please define the positive impact your project will have on the wider Cardano community
This project will establish a powerful real-world use case for Cardano in the multi-trillion dollar healthcare industry, directly demonstrating its utility beyond finance. By creating a blueprint for decentralized health (DeHealth) applications, we will bring tangible value to the Cardano community in three key ways:
- Driving Real-World Adoption: Glucose Guardian will onboard a new, non-crypto-native demographic—patients and healthcare professionals—to the Cardano ecosystem. Each user will require a Cardano wallet to manage their health identity, creating genuine, utility-driven network growth.
- Generating Meaningful On-Chain Activity: Unlike speculative projects, our DApp will generate thousands of real, purposeful transactions as users anchor their daily health data. This consistent on-chain activity strengthens the network and showcases its efficiency for high-frequency, low-cost data integrity tasks.
- Creating an Open-Source Blueprint: Our fully open-source smart contracts and DApp will serve as a foundational template for other developers. This will lower the barrier to entry for building more sophisticated health-tech, supply chain, and data verification solutions on Cardano.
Measuring Our Impact
We will measure our success with clear, transparent metrics over the 6-month project duration:
Quantitative KPIs
- User Onboarding: Onboard a minimum of 50 tester users for our proof of concept.
- On-Chain Activity: Generate over 100 on-chain transactions for data anchoring, demonstrating real-world network usage.
- Developer Engagement: Achieve 10 forks and stars on our GitHub repository, indicating interest and adoption within the developer community.
Qualitative KPIs
- Clinical Validation: Publish a case study based on feedback from at least 5 participating healthcare professionals on the benefits of verifiable patient data.
- Patient Empowerment: Collect and share 20 testimonials from patients detailing their experience with owning and controlling their health data for the first time.
Sharing Our Outputs
We are committed to full transparency and knowledge sharing with the community:
- Fully Open-Source Repository: We will maintain a meticulously documented public GitHub repository under an MIT License, complete with guides for other developers to build upon our work.
- Regular Community Updates: We will provide monthly progress reports via our social channels and a comprehensive final report and video shared through Project Catalyst platforms.
- Direct Engagement: We will host two virtual or in-person workshops—one technical workshop for developers and one community showcase in collaboration with our clinical partners in Addis Ababa to present our findings and demonstrate the working product.

[Final Pitch] Value for Money
How does the cost of the project represent value for the Cardano ecosystem?
Our proposed budget of 50,000 ADA represents an exceptionally high-value investment for the Cardano Treasury. This is not just a concept; it's the targeted enhancement of an existing product, delivered by an efficient and proven team. Here’s how we provide outstanding value for money:
1. Leveraging an Existing, Pre-Built Application
- This proposal's cost-effectiveness is dramatically increased because the core glucose tracking application is already built. The requested funds are not for starting from scratch but for the specific, value-adding task of integrating this functional platform with the Cardano blockchain. This leverages hundreds of hours of our prior unfunded development work, significantly de-risking the project and maximizing the impact of every ADA spent.
2. Highly Competitive Local Development Costs
- Our budget is based on the professional and highly skilled developer local market. These rates are significantly more competitive than most regional markets. For 50,000 ADA, we are delivering the work of a full, multi-disciplinary team over six months—an outcome that would cost several times more elsewhere. This allows the Cardano Treasury to fund a high-impact, real-world use case with remarkable efficiency.
3. Focus on Open-Source Public Goods
- Every ADA is directed toward building a reusable, open-source asset for the entire Cardano ecosystem. For this modest investment, the community receives not just a working DApp but a foundational blueprint for health-tech solutions on Cardano. The smart contracts and integration patterns we develop will be fully documented and available for any other project to use, amplifying the value of this investment far beyond our own application.
4. Zero Administrative Overhead
- Our budget is lean and entirely focused on execution. There are no costs for office space, administrative salaries, or proprietary software licenses. All funds are allocated directly to personnel, project infrastructure, and community engagement, ensuring maximum efficiency and direct value creation.
In summary, this project offers a low-risk, high-reward opportunity to fund a proven team to solve a real-world problem and create a valuable, open-source public good for the ecosystem at an exceptionally competitive cost.
