Cardano Offline Developer's Kit

Cardano offers a ton of online developer content and resources, but this is largely inaccessible to regions of the world with limited Internet access. Many developers in these regions can't gain easy access to the content they need, have trouble streaming tutorials, or just can't download a  binary Node, library or software developer kit (SDK).

We Propose a  Cardano offline developer kit  that offers selected developer's resources aimed at Internet-challenged regions.

The Content of the USB will include  relevant developers material to get any developer started in those region such as : 

• The entire Plutus Pioneer Program Resources
• Full Cardano course videos on  (Haskell , Plutus , SPO , marlowe  ,  etc)
• The entire Developer Docs Website: https://docs.cardano.org/
• Testnet Exercises like Alonzo purple Exercises. 
• Stable Binary version of Cardano Node for different Operating System
• Cardano videos from the Cardano Developers YouTube channel etc
• other 

These kits  will be distributed through Cardano Developer Communities  and Events in Sub-Saharan Africa, India, and Bangladesh.

How will  the Cardano Developers Communities use this?

The Cardano Offline developer kit can be used in an number of ways  to bring more DeFi Developers into Cardano for instance

• Hackathons: Instead of having attendees try to download Binary Node or Building from the Source and other installation files with a poor or non existent internet connection, attendees can make use of the SDK installation files for Cardano that are available with the kit.
• Viewing parties:  Cardano communities Event Organiser  can use the videos to hold viewing parties , where  members of such local Cardano community , office or school can come together to view and discussion videos on specific  Cardano technologies . example  hosting an SPO class  videos.
• Reference and self study: Developers can use the the documentation , SDK and videos that come with the developer kit for reference and self study at home or in the office , example studying the entire Plutus pioneer Program offline.
• Hosted within local intranet: Local Cardano Communities can copy the content (docs, videos, installation files ) to a local server in a local intranet in a local tech hub, incubator, computer science lab or office. That way members , staff or students can have access to the content within their local intranet instead of needing internet access to use it.

-  The Resources in this Kit will be distributed under the Creative commons and Apache licenses to help everyone  spread it as far and wide as they want!

Definition of Success

• Number of Free USB distributed  per week
•         Number of updated resources added in each quarter.
• Number of Cardona  event participant Receiving the Kit.

• Success stories of what DeFi Project they are building with it 
• Numbers of new Learners  Receiving the Kit in those Regions.

Risk/ Challenges

We have identify two  challenges in the implementation of this project.

1.   There is a risk of people selling the USB drive to Developers in remote region without our knowledge and this can lessen the real impact we  set to achieve.

2 There is also the challenge of finding ALL the weekly Cardano's Communities Event happening in the target region.

To solve the challenges, we will

1.   We will label All the branded Cardano USB drive with "NOT FOR SALE" boldly 
2.  we will collaborate with various Cardano Events  Listing platform and Community Organisers.
3. We will reach out to IOG technical committee for a newsletter mention
4.  We will design an On-demand  Request Form for Cardano Developers Community to request for the Kit.
5. We will make use of Premium delivery for Fast and On time Shipment.

IMPACT

As new developers and  team are building  DeFI projects in Cardano, one of the thing we can do as a community for developers in internet-challenged region is to help them SAVE COST during the learning phase of their Journey.

Poor internet network coverage for online courses can hinders so many developers in those region  and we know that talents are everywhere but opportunities and resources  are not.

Given them the resources to learn in offline mode would SPARK many ideas and local solutions for their region while others would have the technical Skill to be employ by company and startups using Cardano Blockchain.

Overall would increase the adoption and building DeFi projects in those Regions.

Roadmap

1. 1-3 months post funding

October:

•  Purchase of  Cardona Branded USB Stick
•  Creation of Community Request Form and  preparation of Promotion materials for the Kit
•  Downloading and put together  resources  for Offline Usage.

  November: 

•     Testing of all Resources / Video for offline usage 
•      Adding Contents to Cardano USB drives 
•     Testing in different operating System

   December

•        On-Demand Distribution to Cardano Communities /Events in those Region
•        Social media stories with hashtag and Impact tracking of the result.

4-6 months post funding

•  Update of content and Resources
•  testing of newer contents
•  Adding of more Content to the USB drives
•  On-Demand Distribution to Cardano Communities /Events/Hackathon Organisers in those Region

6 months to one year

•  seek for more funding to buy USB drives
•  Work local hub and University to setup Hosted Cardano Offline Content within local intranet

Who is Volibra?

Volibra is a small team of developers building merchant payment Infrastructure on Blockchain. The first product we plan to build on the Cardano blockchain is P2P Trading Protocol for the African Market. This P2P protocol is the first step of bringing our Merchant payment API from Diem blockchain to Cardano and a key to unlocking millions of Africans with cash and limited Strict access to banking services to adopt Cardano. Our team consists of several Plutus developers, a front-end developer, and Infrastructure/DevOps Engineer. With these resources we believe we can develop a Workable MVP that can be used by hundreds, if not thousands, of Users. Our team is also part of the Alonzo-purple testing cohort and plutus pioneer Program.
