Backstory

I am a video game player for the last 25+ years and I am keep seeing these problems coming over and over again, no matter what games I used to play. I invested so much time and money into these games without really having any long term gain from them.

Besides that my father was a sailor and he always told me about the problems with our oceans and that's the reason I came up also with this theme for the game and the motivation to help our oceans and make an impact in the gaming industry.

Gamers spend over $1K on in-game assets, owning nothing & their interest reduces over time. To retain interest in game, we give ownership to players who profit from selling NFTs & appreciating WOP tokens.

Game overview

Our game World of Pirates is designed in first phase to be a 1vs1 battle royale chess card game. Players will connect to a pool in a tournament style and eliminate other opponents, by playing 1vs1 games. Winning a game the player will be rewarded: XP (experience points) and PG (pirate gold - in-game currency). With the PG then the players will be able to purchase pirate chests. Opening the Pirate Chests the player gets rewarded with a combination of WOPRace tokens (see the white paper link at the end - on short extra help on game governance), NFT cards or other in-game assets.

In addition, players will be able to buy secret gems directly with WOP Tokens, giving them the chances to win a new NFT card or other items.

We will have two types of Tokens: WOP token which one can swap from ADA or buy with FIAT and WOPRace token, which one can only win by playing the game and receiving rewards or participating in art contests organized by us.

Our game will have in the beginning two modes: classical chess - where the chess figures will be replaced by the NFT cards and the Battle Royal Chess - where the in addition to replacing the chess figures they now have also the ability to attack or defend, based on their stats.

In the future we see our game to be AR ready and played by gamers in outdoors where they can fight in 1vs1 matches using only their phones (or other devices that support AR).

Most of the non-blockchain games don't let you trade or sell your in-game assets, therefore gamers started to create multiple accounts in order to sell their in-game assets. Which lead to a lot of scams, money loss and untrusted solutions. Plus players will have to buy a new account and then you would have different assets in different accounts, which started to be annoying for the player.

In the future we would like to add royalty fees and automate the transfer to Sea Shepherd Cardano address account.

Also we will like that the impact projects to be selected by our community in a decentralized way and by voting.

DAO

---

With our WOPRace token gamers will be able to vote their favorite art pice / illustration and dictate the direction of the game. To cast your vote you will have to pay it with the WOPRace tokens, but you will be able to do it also with just the WOP tokens. However, because we prefer to give the gamers that play the game an advantage in the voting, we will have a weighted vote as follows: 70% x WOPRace tokens owned + 30% x WOP tokens owned = voting power (this values will be later adjusted accordingly to our gathered data).

Until we are creating the DAO as described before, we are using Ideascale to simulate a DAO, where we already created an art competition for the months November and December (our winner: https://worldofpirates.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Water-Scout-Jane/377890-48606) and we are preparing a new competition for the POTM of January (https://worldofpirates.ideascale.com/a/campaign-home/26219)

Roadmap & Team

On the team front, we have built a diverse global team with a lot of experience behind them that will drive this project further through the game development, investor relations, strategy, marketing and community building initiatives.

We plan to release the alpha and beta version of the game next year. Then to implement the game in AR and create the DAO for our community. In last part of 2023 we want to have the game ready for the masses and create tournaments and leagues for our players.

Team:

Edwin Tuzar - Founder of WOP - Avid gamer with a great passion for the ocean and aquatic life. Brings 10 years of experience in software development, blockchain developer (Plutus Pioneer), DevOps and consulting in DACH industries and in his spare time take part in Jam Games.

Torben Poguntke - software developer for automation smart factories, blockchain developer (Plutus and Atala Prism Pioneer) and experience in research and building safe systems for the past 20 years

Ian Grimaud - Full stack and blockchain developer (Plutus Pioneer) with 30 years of experience working for multiple industries across Europe.

Praveen Pinto - Serial entrepreneur, Crypto researcher/investor, bringing over 24 years of experience in putting together global marketing/growth strategies in digital.

We are working with freelancers (Artists, Story tellers) for creating the best art for the game.

Budget

We need the $60,000 to help us in creating a MVP for our game, with this money we will cover some part of the game development and infrastructure costs.

Infrastructure costs example in AWS cloud for the next 3 Months (the MVP creation time)

**Total Charges per Month = Player Packages charges (Early testers) + Matchmaking Hours charges = $499 + $12.36 = $511.36**

In addition we will have other services in place that sums up to another $300 / Month

3 Months x 511.36 = $1,534.08

3 Months x 300 = $900

Staff costs: 3 senior developers x 3 months x $4000 = $36,000

Marketing campaigns & Sales | 2 persons x $3000 x 3 months + 1,200 ads costs  = $19,200

- can you add details on what marketing campaigns you plan to run and their associated costs?

→ Besides the current campaigns that we are starting this month (~$1000), we plan to hire a marketing person and a sales person, this is how we end up with the cost. A detailed strategy will be created with these persons.

- you mention that the Catalyst funds would cover some part of the development process - do you have another source of funding? how much do you estimate you need to complete the MVP?

→ Currently we have our own money invested and what we get from selling the NFTs
