How can we mitigate our Carbon footprint using ADA and avoid greenwashing?
Calculate your carbon footprint and send ADA to trusted projects to mitigate it
This is the total amount allocated to Carbon Footprint Ledger.
More about the Problem
Carbon footprint mitigation is often associated with greenwashing as there is no transparency and traceability.
There are several problems when working on solutions:
- How to calculate my footprint?
- Can I mitigate it? How?
- How can I make sure there is no greenwashing?
- How to make it transparent and traceable?
MyCarbonZero Solution Today
"My Carbon Zero" inspires people and companies to take action against climate change. Each action counts and cumulative efforts will have cumulative results
My Carbon Zero is being developed under the leadership of Scott Poynton (see more at the team) and The Pond Foundation (https://thepondfoundation.org/) and phase 1 is already ongoing and could be found at https://mycarbonzero.org/
The platform enables you to calculate the lifetime carbon footprint and take actions to mitigate it by reducing your Carbon and by supporting trusted projects.
Please login and check your Life carbon impact as well as go through the available resources.
MyCarbonZero has started in 2021 and already has clients including companies, schools, and individuals. Some examples: https://www.apellaadvisors.com/, https://www.educatedc.com/, https://calyah.com/
Scott Poynton was a guest speaker at the Catalyst Sustainability Goals conference on November 23rd - here is the link to the video and to hear Scott talk about collaboration, trust, and MyCarbonZero

MyCarbonZero Solution & Cardano
The goal is to take this off-chain project on-chain and use Cardano infrastructure. The reason to bring it on-chain is to have better transparency about Carbon footprint and traceability of activities to mitigate it, so less space for "greenwashing".
The key process includes:
- Calculate the life carbon footprint
* Website and carbon calculator for individuals is already available at MyCarbonZero.org
* For corporate or more complex calculations the MyCarbonZero team is supporting the calculation
- Register it on-chain as your carbon footprint impact
- Choose a selected trusted* project that reduces Carbon footprint and send the amount of ADA to reduce your footprint
- Register the transaction on your carbon account and available as an online webpage or as a report
* Trusted projects are projects that are directly vetted by MyCarbonZero NGO and other Vetted on-chain projects such as Veritree.

Marketing and scale plan
12 months and Going forward
MyCarbonZero objective is to build an attractive easy to use system that could scale. We will work on the plan of integrating the MyCarbonZero process with companies that could reach millions of users and have a big impact. One simple example is the travel industry where an Expedia user is able to calculate his/her flight carbon footprint and mitigate it through directly supporting a trusted project like Veritree and a full verification and transparency for the process.
The team is very knowledgeable about the travel & hospitality space and in particular related to technology integrations and we see a massive opportunity for scale. This proposal can then be connected with another proposal by the team related to Traveler ID, but could also operate on its own.

Budget
For this first phase, we choose to focus on an MVP (minimum viable product) that will help prove the process and present it to clients and partners.
The majority of the funds will be dedicated to the product development that will be managed by Udai and based in Calcutta India where the cost of development is low. We calculate the budget across a period of 3. We envision
Spec and development - 1 person for 3 months X $2500 = $7500
UI/UX/Design 1 person for 2 months X $1500 = $3000
Project management customers & partners = $2000
Project coordination $1500
Total budget $14,000
Challenges
There will be challenges on the way to success, here are some:
Challenge 1 - making it very simple for users
Climate change seems a huge issue and we are powerless.
How can make everyone feel they can and should contribute to fighting climate change? How can we make users understand it is possible to get to 0 negative impacts? How to make a user flow very simple and fast?
Challenge 2 - Business model
To grow and scale, we will need to prove and improve the business model which is today based on the corporate social responsibility budget. This will be part of the ongoing work in the next 6 months. Our goal is to generate revenue so we can sustain the growth.
Challenge 3 - Partnerships for scale
Partnerships with leading companies have the risk of the speed of implementation and priorities. We need to find the right motivation and process to make this partnership effective.
SDG goals alignment (based on AIM Proposer SDG tool - https://cardanocataly.st/proposer-tool-sdg):**:)
