We know blockchain and crypto are awesome. We also know how intimidating it can be when first getting started. The size and scope of the technology can feel overwhelming.

And here in Japan, some of us are especially resistant to change when it comes to money. Visitors are often surprised at just how many places are cash only!

So for many, simply mentioning the word cryptocurrency, conjures up feelings of something that's "just not quite for me."

But what if we could break it all down to someone in a uniquely Japanese way?

We want to create a video with fun, and interesting hosts. A combination of real and animated individuals who will cover blockchain fundamentals, introduce crypto, and then showcase all the cool stuff that Cardano and Catalyst have to offer.

What is Candy Pop-Up?

Candy Pop-Up is a visually appealing intro to Cardano and Catalyst!

We want to produce original content in our Candy Pop-Up style from here in Japan.

Our team of designers, developers, and marketers - are ready to create art, NFTs, shirts, and more goodies!

The problem in detail

Japan is regarded by the world as being at the forefront of new technology. However, in the case of blockchain and cryptocurrency, Japan has trailed behind its neighbors when it comes to widespread adoption. Strict regulations, and a reluctance to turn away from cash, have caused hesitancy and skepticism towards crypto in the general public.

Why the time is right

2021 has seen several major milestones that forecast a significant change for the better.

In February, Japan's largest online retailer Rakuten announced it would begin accepting cryptocurrency to charge users' Rakuten Cash balances. This marked the first time a Japanese service had ever enabled users to use crypto assets as a source of e-money payment.

Shortly after, online game publisher Nexon announced a $100 million investment in Bitcoin, also something a publicly traded Japanese company has never done before.

On top of that, since launching its NFT marketplace in March, crypto exchange Coincheck has reported a growing number of manga and anime publishers asking for help turning their art into digital tokens. This signals the beginning of what could become a major collaboration between Japan's world famous pop culture, and crypto technology.

Now is the time to engage with those who are interested, but still on the fence.

We want to take advantage of this increasingly positive climate in Japan, to inform, entertain, and motivate.

Through our network of creators, influencers, developers, and industry veterans - we are confident that we can raise awareness, and grow the Cardano and Catalyst community in Japan.

Who we are

Nick -

As founder of the brand experience agency Eggworm, Nick leads the strategic vision and creativity for the company's diverse portfolio of work. He has applied his expertise in brand development, PR, and event planning in order to lead many successful marketing campaigns and activations.

Brano -

From Prague to Taipei to Tokyo, Brano has crafted brand designs and creative strategies for companies across the world. After founding the firm Y/F, he now serves as the company's director, focusing on business proposition strategy, visual identity development, and brand messaging.

日本は世界的に見ても、新しい技術の最先端を走っていると評価されています。しかし、ブロックチェーンや暗号通貨の場合、日本は普及の面で近隣諸国に遅れをとっています。厳しい規制や、現金から離れたくないという気持ちが、一般の人々の暗号通貨に対する躊躇や懐疑心を引き起こしているのです。

なぜ今がチャンスなのか

2021年は、良い方向への大きな変化を予感させるいくつかの重要な節目がありました。

2月、日本最大のオンライン小売業者である楽天は、ユーザーの楽天キャッシュ残高へのチャージに暗号通貨の使用を開始すると発表しました。これは、日本のサービスで初めて、ユーザーが電子マネーの支払いに暗号資産を利用できるようになったことを意味します。

その直後には、オンラインゲーム会社のネクソンが1億ドルのビットコインへの投資を発表しましたが、これも日本の上場企業が行ったことのないことでした。
